Job Overview

Responsible for performing laboratory testing and procedures in any/all areas of the laboratory and reporting timely accurate test results.

Additional Information

Department: Core Lab (Chemistry and Hematology) Hours per pay week: 40, eligible for benefits Shifts: Days: (0600-1500) Monday - Friday. With rotating day shift weekends and holidays. Days: (0930-1800) Monday - Friday. With rotating weekends and holidays covering evening shift. Evenings: (1330-2200), Monday - Friday. With rotating weekends and holidays. Nights: 7-on, 7-off. Mix of 10hr (2100-0730) and 12hr (1900-0730) shifts.

Qualifications

EDUCATION - Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institutio EQUIVALENCY - Meeting one of the other requirements set by the ASCP Board of Certification may be accepted in lieu of degree. CERTIFICATION(S) -Medical Technologist/Scientist Certification ASCP or equivalent or; certification required within 6 months of eligibility

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE Neonate - 30 days to 1yr Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs School age - >5yrs to 13yrs Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs Adults > 18yrs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Responsible for reporting accurate results, evaluating results for clinical significance and validity, and for recognition of atypical/abnormal results requiring additional follow up. Ensures quality control is acceptable and instrumentation is functioning and maintained within defined tolerance limits and documentation is completed. Consciously works to minimize errors and takes responsibility for correcting and documenting errors in a timely manner. Performs all laboratory functions according to standard operating procedures and guidelines established by regulatory agencies, including participation in proficiency testing and fa iliarization with regulations and quality indicators. Troubleshoots equipment and assay performance when results are questionable. May teach, train and/or mentor new employees, students and other healthcare professionals according to standard operating procedures, when reque May procure blood from patients by venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick to obtain blood samples for analysis following age-specific guidelines.
