Job Title: Fire Alarm Technician

Position: # 212405 – Requisition: #34031

Job Summary:

This position may be eligible for a one-time non-base building sign-on bonus up to $2,000. Details of this recruitment incentive program will be provided during the interview process.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection (50%)

  • Inspects and tests fire alarm systems in all UCD buildings for proper operation by following established procedures and checklists.

  • Ensures that all systems are operative and monitoring equipment in the Fire Command Center is on line and ready to answer calls and relay to the fire department.

Diagnosis and Repair (20%)

  • Diagnoses cause and implements electrical/electronic repairs, both scheduled and unscheduled, by determining the most logical approach.

  • Follows established procedures and checklists to determine solutions for the repair or replacement of fire alarm systems and components (Examples: smoke detectors, heat sensors, visual/audible alarms, fire suppression water pumps, pull stations and others).

Testing (20%)

  • Documents results from all testing, repairs, and alarms from the fire alarm system(s) installed at UCD.

  • Enters responses by the Fire Department in the fire alarm log and records pertinent information on calls and troubles.

  • Keeps accurate records of all testing activities.

Evaluation and Recommendation (5%)

  • Evaluates and recommends repairs, replacement, and the installation of new devices in the system.

  • Establishes a trend of failures and makes recommendations to prevent reoccurring problems in the fire alarm equipment. Reviews and recommends alterations for various product submittals, and for new installation, and reviews specifications, blueprint, schematics and diagrams.

  • Stays involved with construction review of new and remodel projects to ensure the fire and life safety systems contained within ensure optimal functionality for the UCD research and education communities.

Emergencies, Special Events and Other Duties (5%)

  • Participates and assists in emergencies based on the magnitude and nature. Supports various special events both in preparation and during the event (i.e. Commencement).

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of technical experience repairing, performing maintenance, installing, modifying, calibrating, certifying, or fabricating equipment.

  • Substitution : An associate's degree or successful completion of the equivalent of 60 semester hours of training at an accredited college or university or recognized non-correspondence technical school with 30 semester hours of coursework related to electronic systems may be substituted for two years of the required experience ( Transcripts Required Upon Application ).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing construction reviews of new and remodel projects to ensure optimal functionality of the fire and life safety systems.

  • Experience participating and assisting in emergencies and special event preparation.
