Are you looking for a career where you can use your research and analytical skills? The Maine Department of Labor, Buraeau is is looking for an Unemployment Tax Liabilty Specialist.
We offer a flexible hybrid remote and in office work schedule.
Primary responsibilities include:
Conduct investigations through interviews, questionnaires, research, and evidence obtained from employer and claimant records.
Ensure compliance with applicable unemployment laws.
Investigate disputed wages and secure missing employer or wage information.
Review and make complex liability determinations.
Respond to customer questions related to Unemployment Compensation tax reports, tax report filing, resetting of passwords, excess wages, and tax rates.
Assist employers to get in compliance with account registration and filing payroll reports.

Minimum qualifications:
Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a proficient knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices to perform advanced work in collecting delinquent unemployment compensation taxes, and 2) the ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and decision-making on complex administrative matters. All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of: Accounting Assistant and Accounting Associate I and Accounting Associate II.
