    The Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Air Quality, is seeking to fill a Division Director of Environmental Services ((Public Service Manager II) vacancy in Augusta, Maine.

    BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This management position supervises and oversees all activity for the Division of Air Quality Assessment (DAQA) in the Bureau of Air Quality. This Division is comprised of three sections: the Laboratory and Quality Assurance Section; the Monitoring Section; and the Atmospheric Science and Analysis Section and is responsible for all ambient air quality monitoring conducted and the data collected throughout the state, which is carried out by the 4 regional offices in Presque Isle, Bangor, Augusta, and Portland. The data obtained is submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, is used for issuing Bureau of Air Quality’s daily air quality forecasts, making attainment demonstrations, and tracking trends, among other multiple uses. The Division is also responsible for the operation of the Air Laboratory that supports the Monitoring Program by performing various analyses of collected air samples, conducting performance audits of all monitoring equipment, the creation and/or upkeep of the Division’s Quality Assurance Project Plans and Standard Operating Procedures, and managing and maintaining all the Monitoring Program’s and Air Lab’s data management systems and their applications. The Division also performs sophisticated technical analyses of a variety of complicated data sets, drafts regulatory proposals and final promulgations, and provides comments, notes potential issues, and makes recommendations to Division and Bureau management based on results of and conclusions from completed assessments. .

    Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree with at least 15 college credit hours of science or engineering course work plus 6 years professional experience in environmental or regulatory work, including at least 3 years of supervisory/management experience. Related equivalent work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

    Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:

    · Experience implementing air quality environmental programs at the federal, state, or local level.

    · Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking presentations.

    · Strong analytical, writing, and data management skills.

    · Ability to work effectively with technical staff, administration officials, and the public.

    · Experience and/or education in analytical chemistry, meteorology, or air quality monitoring.

    · Ability to supervise, coordinate, direct, influence, organize, educate, train staff to create a cohesive and comprehensive team.
