The Maine Department of Marine Resources is seeking a qualified candidate for alimited periodMarine Resource Management Coordinator position focused on Sea-Run Fisheries. This is an internal only hire.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:This is professional services work coordinating marine resource management projects focused on native diadromous or “Sea-Run” species in Maine, which include Atlantic salmon, American eel, striped bass, river herring, shad, rainbow smelt, Atlantic and shortnose sturgeon, sea-run brook trout, and sea lamprey. These positions will be responsible for administering, developing, and coordinating fish passage and habitat restoration projects, administering federal grants focused on sea-run fish passage and habitat restoration, ensuring compliance with permits, and conducting fisheries effectiveness monitoring. This position will oversee restoration projects including dam removals, installation of technical and nature like fishways, and culvert upgrades to improve habitat connectivity for sea-run fish species. These tasks will often be completed in close coordination with other state and federal agencies, NGO’s, the fishing industry, municipalities, and other interested parties. This position will be located in our Augusta office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education, training, and/or experience demonstrating technical expertise in marine resource and aquaculture program management or development and implementation of complex marine resource focused conservation projects.
Preferred Qualifications for this position includea minimum of two years’ direct experience or extensive knowledge of diadromous species resource issues and/or a graduate degree. Additional experience we are looking for: strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated analytical and technical writing skills, program management skills, demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at the same time, ability to successfully convey scientific information to nonscientific audiences, experience conducting meetings and building consensus, experience dealing with contentious issues, ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, computer skills, and willingness to travel.
