Job Description:

Transports elderly, persons with disabilities and General Public Transportation riders from one location to another in the safest manner possible by means of the KDOT vans stationed at the Butler County Department on Aging. Applicant must have a neat appearance and a sincere desire to work with the general public, especially the elderly and people with disabilities. Employee must possess a valid Kansas drivers license. This position is included in the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) drug and alcohol testing program.

Job Duties

100% - Transports elderly, persons with disabilities and general public riders in a safe and courteous manner.\ Changes destination routes as directed by Transportation Coordinator.\ Collects fares, logs on trip sheets, counts fares daily with Coordinator.\ Complies with countywide and department policies and procedures.\ Follows county safety and operational rules and procedures.\ Follows KDOT procedures for reporting accidents, drug testing if required, handling emergency passenger situations.\ Maintains daily trip sheets.\ Operates all job-related machinery, equipment, tools and other aids as required, necessary, or needed in the performance of these job functions.\ Performs daily pre-trip vehicle inspections.\ Writes reports in coherent, legible manner.\ Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Transportation Driver - Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10\'s and 100\'s.\ Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.\ Ability to be highly organized.\ Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.\ Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of communications, conveying detailed or important instructions and information to the general public.\ Ability to load/unload and secure people in wheelchairs onto vehicles using different types of lifts.\ Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.\ Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.\ Ability to write simple correspondence.\ Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.\ Ability to read and disseminate map and manifest information.\ Ability to read and interpret a map, speak clearly, hear accurately, and interact courteously with the public.\ Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties.\ Ability to use good judgment in emergency situations.\ Ability to work with and communicate clearly, accurately, and effectively with people, both in person and by telephone, sensitivity to the needs of elderly and disabled persons.\ Knowledge of equipment maintenance.\ Knowledge of procedures to follow in the event of an accident.\ Knowledge of safety operations.\ Knowledge of streets and roads in Butler County.\ Knowledge of the demographics of the service area.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Physical activity in operating lift and securing riders in wheelchair tie-downs.
