Bolster Heights is seeking a Cook to join our team! This is a per diem position. Starting pay is $18.00.
This is a Residential Cook position with our Bolster Heights Long Term Care Facility in Auburn, Maine. The Cook is responsible for the preparation and serving of food for the residents and guests, using proper food handling techniques in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Follows established policies and procedures set forth by the facility.
Regulatory Requirements: • High School diploma or equivalent • 1-3 years Cooking experience • Experience cooking in a healthcare setting preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities: Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: 1. The cook will provide each resident with a well-balanced diet, per diet plan, executed by the Director of Personal Care Services and approved by the Dietitian 2. Make available minimum daily requirements for adults based on assessment and provide meals via selective menus. 3. Provide nutritionally balanced snacks and nourishments between meals and at bedtime. 4. Prepare therapeutic diets as prescribed by the physician, and according to facility breakdowns. 5. Shall be aware of State menu guidelines and knowledge of food values, and make appropriate substitutions when necessary. 6. Knowledgeable of food storage and the protection of such. 7. Refrigerate, freeze, and maintain hot foods in an appropriate manner, according to established policies. 8. Shall prepare food in a safe, sanitary manner as per state and federal regulations. 9. Use appropriate infection control technique in the handling of food. 10. Use appropriate utensils in the handling of food. 11. Monitor utensils and equipment which may be unsafe and report to the Director of Personal Care Services. 12. Monitor all areas, clean designated areas of kitchen per cleaning schedule, during scheduled hours, to provide a clean environment. 13. Clean and sanitize all equipment – utensils as per policy and procedures. 14. Handle and store equipment in a safe and sanitary manner. 15. Responsible for timely service of all meals in accordance to policy. 16. Shall offer alternative foods per policy and procedure. 17. Provide nutritional substitutions and communicate changes to resident. 18. Responsible for the supervision of dietary aides in the absence of the Director of Personal Care Services. 19. Responsible for set-up of paper work for new residents in the absence of the Director of Personal Care Services. 20. Attend in service education program and staff meetings as per facility policy. 21. Assist in the training and orientation of staff as assigned by the Director of Personal Care Services. 22. Maintain open communications with the Director of Personal Care Services and the Nursing Services as indicated. 23. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Personal Care Services.
