BorgWarner Inc. Application Engineer in Auburn Hills, Michigan

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Application Engineer to join our team at BorgWarner in our DMS (Drivetrain & Morse Systems) division located at our Auburn Hills MI location. The successful candidate will serve as the primary technical interface to our customers, leading product design meetings, managing documentation, and providing on-site support. This role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various engineering groups to ensure product specifications are met.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Facing:

  • Act as the primary technical interface to the customer for production and service products.

  • Lead customer product design team meetings, negotiating commitments and dates with the support of BW Sales and Product Engineering.

  • Manage customer-required documentation and drawings.

  • Lead customer communications for engineering topics.

  • Provide on-site customer support to resolve field or testing issues.

Product Development:

  • Develop BW 4WD/AWD/torque transfer system product specifications and calculations.

  • Collaborate with BW Engineering groups to ensure products conform to specifications.

  • Support the development of validation plans, track progress, and review results with customers. Participate in validation teardowns.

  • Ensure deliverables and timing are clearly defined and communicated to the organization.

Support Functions:

  • Configuration Management:

  • Assist the configuration manager with tasks.

  • Provide project management leadership in identifying, planning, and tracking configuration items.

  • Promote teamwork by actively seeking collaboration with internal and external team members.

  • Requirements Management:

  • Support the requirements manager with tasks.

  • Oversee and manage the requirements process for assigned projects.

  • Ensure all project requirements are accurately documented, reviewed, and communicated to relevant stakeholders.

  • Coordinate with various teams to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.

  • Change Management:

  • Oversee and manage changes to baselined requirements for assigned projects.

  • Run Change Control Board (CCB) meetings for assigned projects.

  • Problem Resolution:

  • Manage issues related to product defects for assigned projects.

  • Support warranty-related issues.

  • Assist with manufacturing plant issues (BW or customer).
