Northern Hardwoods Maintenance Worker in Atlantic Mine, Michigan

Are you handy with tools and enjoy keeping equipment in top shape? If so, Northern Hardwoods, a producer of world-wide premium hardwoods, is hiring full-time Maintenance Workers to join their sawmill team in Atlantic Mine, Michigan. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase a wide range of skills and be a vital part of our team, ensuring our manufacturing equipment runs safely and smoothly.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.

  • Troubleshoot and repair various machines (debarkers, head rigs, edgers, rip saws, trimmers, chippers, conveyors, compressors, chain drives, hoists, shakers, sorters, stackers, boilers).
  • Maintain and troubleshoot vehicles/equipment (front-end loaders, log loaders, forklifts, pick-up trucks).
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools (air wrenches, hydraulic jacks/presses, hose presses, band saws, milling machines, come-alongs).
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and keep detailed maintenance records.
  • Monitor oil and parts inventories, complete requisition forms, and report to supervisor/team lead.
  • Use torches and welders.
  • Make and replace hydraulic hoses.
  • Use computers to help with production and maintenance issues.
  • Conduct daily lift inspections and address safety concerns.

SCHEDULE. This is full-time, Monday--Friday position generally working 6am -- 3:00pm. Some schedule flexibility required for preventive maintenance and emergency situations. Opportunity for overtime.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 or more years' repair and maintenance experience on vehicles and/or equipment.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Someone who operates with a sense of urgency and discipline and can organize and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Someone motivated to take action, use safe work practices, and are resourceful in solving problems.
  • Position requires an ability to perform physical work with lifting and/or carrying up to 50 pounds; climbing ladders of modest height; dusty, dirty and confined spaces; loud and moving machinery and equipment; and outdoor weather conditions (hot, cold, windy, rainy, humid, snowy, etc.).
