Position Title: Supervisor, Transmission Operations, Maintenance & Training

Department: Operations & Maintenance –

Reports to: Manager, Transmission Operations & Maintenance

Location: Atlanta, GA (*On-site)

  • Incumbent must work in office in Atlanta four (4) days per week and may work remotely one (1) day per week with manager approval

Summary:

Supervises internal operations and maintenance personnel to monitor O&M activities for MEAG Power’s transmission assets that include vegetation management, battery and relay maintenance, repairs and replacements of structures and transmission equipment and distribution lowside equipment owned by MEAG Power as required. These activities involve creation of work orders, issuance of Maintenance Authorization Requests (MAR’s), review of invoices, etc. Represents MEAG Power on various ITS working groups, and possible regional and national committees involving operation and maintenance of the transmission system.

Scope of Responsibility:

Responsible for transmission asset maintenance, as well as substation equipment condition monitoring. Manages approximately $1.5 million A & G expenditures and $20+ million contracted maintenance and operation expenditures for $800+ million dollars of transmission assets with authority to approve capital expenditures up to authorized amount. Customers include wholesale electric systems, suppliers, system operators, operations and monitoring centers among others. Implements company policy and procedures.

This position provides supervision for the Senior Transmission Training & Safety Specialist who certifies MEAG Power’s own personnel, contractors and employees of Participants served by MEAG Power to perform limited maintenance and routine operations on the high voltage transmission system within the Integrated Transmission System (ITS) as required, and the lowside distribution feeders located in substations that provide service to MEAG Power’s Participants. This position also supervises the Transmission Billing Analyst and Senior Operations & Maintenance Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Establishes section policies, procedures, and standards in accordance with company programs, policies and initiatives.

  • Monitors monthly expenditures to track actual spending by categories and FERC account numbers to the budget for those activities.

  • Responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance involving MEAG Power’s transmission assets as it relates to Operations and Maintenance. The position oversees NERC regulations PRC-005 (Transmission & Generation Protection System Maintenance and Testing), FAC-003 (Vegetation Management Program), and other applicable regulations.

  • Works with municipal electric distribution systems and with transmission system operators for day-to-day and emergency operations of transmission system.

  • Supervises operations and maintenance activities including contract negotiations, administration, scheduling, budget tracking, and coordination with other sections.

  • Establishes policies and procedures to ensure that activities are carried out in a timely and professional manner.

  • Represents MEAG Power on various committees involving transmission operations, maintenance, testing, and protection.

  • Provides the necessary supervision for training to certify MEAG Power’s personnel and its customers’ personnel to operate distribution equipment safely and without disrupting the statewide grid.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Generally requires a Bachelor's Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.

  • 5-8 years related experience in the utility industry with direct experience in Transmission Maintenance and Operations. At least 1 year of experience must include direct supervision of other technical and professional individuals.

  • Strong oral, written, interpersonal and time management skills.

  • Project Management skills required.
