WestRock Company Senior Director, HR- Consumer Mills Operations in Atlanta, Georgia

The opportunity:

Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources for Paper/Mill Operations in the US/Canada, the Senior Director of Human Resources will partner with the leadership of the Mill Operations business and will cover 10 plus mill operations locations. As a collaborative member of the Mills Operations Leadership team, the successful candidate will work closely with the SVP of Consumer Mill Operations and other mill leaders. Together, they will drive the ongoing evolution of the business strategy, refine execution plans, and develop organization and talent strategies to support our overall goals. This position leads and is accountable for developing a team of HR professionals responsible for building strong partnerships with the mill leaders and employees and brokering the support of the full HR function to ensure that the business and associated organizational/talent management objectives are achieved. The Senior Director of Human Resources will lead 9 direct reports and a team of 30 indirect reports.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Work with business leadership to contribute to the development of business strategy and proactively drive and deliver on the business organization, capability, and talent agenda.

  • Regularly review organization design and organization effectiveness and implement necessary actions to continually upgrade and align to the business strategy and immediate priorities

  • Lead key initiatives and provide solutions for employee relations, organization development, performance management, workforce planning and talent acquisition, talent development, and succession planning.

  • Drive an aggressive talent management agenda for the business, ensuring the best fit of talent and capabilities is currently available and building as needed for future requirements

  • Design and lead initiatives that advance the business agenda and ensure strong programming is in place to attract, develop, and retain the talent and capabilities needed to meet business objectives.

  • Partner and engage with Talent Acquisition, Learning & Organizational Development, Compensation & Benefits, and HR Services teams to provide human resources support and solutions.

  • Work closely with leaders and other HR team members to assess the pipeline of internal talent and as required, collaborate with Talent Acquisition to create strategies to attract outside talent.

  • Work with Learning & Organizational Development to identify training needs and solutions for the function and individual leadership coaching needs.

  • Engage in supporting the development of total rewards strategy and actions for the business, driving the effective use of performance management and partnering with the compensation team to ensure tight alignment and ongoing assessment of commercial and salaried compensation programs to ensure delivery of required business results and behaviors

  • Support effective employee relations within the business by advising on the appropriate deployment of HR and compliance policies and developing a culture of positive employee engagement

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration or related discipline. Masters preferred. Experience as a proven HR leader for a complex multi-billion dollar industrial commercial and/or manufacturing division or region

  • Twelve+ years of experience in a fast-paced HR business partner or business role, preferably supporting operations in a manufacturing or industrial environment

  • Demonstrated expert experience in employee relations, organizational development & planning, talent management consulting, and compensation/rewards, especially through transformational changes. Demonstrated ability to apply functional knowledge to drive solutions to business challenges.

  • Think and operate like a business leader operating in the HR space. With proven business and financial acumen, can work with credibility and influence business and functional leaders.

  • A hands-on, self-motivated, and goal-oriented individual who is an agent for positive change and innovation, inspiring employees to the highest performance standards through frequent communication, good management practices, performance measurement systems, and leadership.

  • A proven ability to take initiative to anticipate customer needs and recommend actions to address challenges.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a matrixed environment; ability to build and maintain strong partnerships across multiple areas and geographies.

  • A holistic thinker with strong business acumen, ability to prioritize, and a track record of achieving results. A proven strategic bent with an equally strong continuous improvement focus. Able to master complex business problems and have the intellect and pragmatism to be able to handle ambiguity and manage change effectively.

  • Experience being involved in M&A and integration a plus. Experience with business integration, identifying and prioritizing actions and agendas to maximize progress, align cultures, and drive positive employee relations.

  • Significant business-oriented organization design and effectiveness experience.

  • Balance of experience in growth and productivity aspects of HR.

  • Strong coaching and influencing skills.

  • Able to broker business and HR resources to deliver agenda
