Your New Role …

A critical part of the FactCheck (formerly known as The Row) story approval and clearance operation, the Bilingual Editor (Temp) will contribute to decisive editorial oversight of CNN’s reporting on all platforms, working closely with the international and national news hubs as well as other editorial departments. This is an editorial leadership position in the newsroom requiring flexibility, negotiation skills and an ability to marshal human and physical resources for projects at short notice.

Your Role Accountabilities…

  • This role entails newsgroup-wide script and story approval, especially for content in Spanish, and including stories that include sensitive and controversial content.

  • The FactCheck Editor must ensure each story meets a high standard of accuracy, clarity, quality story-telling, fairness and balance, while avoiding problems of libel, defamation and use infringement.

  • A key part of the job is to ensure completed stories meet platform and/or show needs.

  • The editor may be a liaison with Legal as well as Standards & Practices.

  • The editor may be required to operate independently outside of regular business hours Eastern Standard Time (U.S.)

Qualifications & Experience…

  • Four years university study and/or journalism education; Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Five years journalism experience

  • Two years reporting or field producing

  • Native fluency in Spanish; ability to work in English

Ideal…

  • Seven years journalism experience, including experience producing or copy-editing TV newscasts, magazine shows, or a major daily newspaper and/or news website

  • Four years reporting or field producing
