Position Summary

Morehouse School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics seeks an energetic and compassionate Program Director to lead our amazing Pediatrics Residency Training Program.

The Morehouse School of Medicine Pediatric Residency Training Program is committed to training excellent pediatricians with an expertise in community-based health delivery and advocacy, aimed at promoting lifelong health habits that decrease health disparities in poor, rural, racially, and economically disadvantaged populations.

Appointment as full-time Associate Professor or Professor of Pediatrics at Morehouse School of Medicine will be commensurate with experience, training, and achievement. The anticipated start date is Fall 2023.

Broadly, the program director has responsibility, authority, and accountability to oversee all aspects of pediatric residency education and training. This includes oversight of curriculum, evaluation, learning environment, resident supervision, program management and accreditation. Ultimately, the program director ensures the program’s compliance with the ACGME Pediatric Program Requirement which can be found at: https://www.acgme.org/specialties/pediatrics/program-requirements-and-faqs-and-applications/.

The person in this role reports to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and the DIO of Morehouse School of Medicine. The role has 0.5 FTE allocated for administrative leadership and development of the residency program.

Applicants must be board certified in Pediatrics and /or a subspecialty and possess and valid Georgia state medical license and DEA . Experience in Graduate Medical Education leadership and Residency Program Development is also required.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

  • Work with program directors and faculty to assign resident call schedule for the academic year

  • Liaise with residents who cannot fulfill their clinical obligations and work with the program directors to arrange schedule changes

  • Ensure the efficient and smooth operation of clinical services

  • Report cases of serious personal or disciplinary problems to the residency program director and appropriate faculty members

  • Collect feedback from residents regularly to understand challenges that are preventing them from performing duties effectively

  • Represent other residents in meetings and discussions related to policy and guidelines that can affect working environment and education

  • Teach and train residents on various aspects of clinical practices, including diagnosis and in-patient care

  • Meet with residents to share the key points of meetings with program directors

  • Collaborate with program staff and faculty to create and coordinate lecture schedule

  • Attend hospital committee meetings depending on availability and interests

  • Facilitate the recruitment process of new residents into the program

  • Perform clinical duties based on the needs of the program

  • Perform educational activities and other duties assigned by the program directors

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
