The opportunity:
The Raw Material Category Manager will be part of the WestRock Corporate Procurement team and will focus on:
Maximizing value through strategic sourcing programs
Creation and management of price mechanisms
Navigating supply disruptions/force majeures
Negotiating payment terms
Establishing contracts and amendments
Managing supplier performance
Effective and appropriate communication of key program information to stakeholders
Create and manage continuous improvement projects
Support company eProcurement systems, Procurement Policy and compliance activities
The focus of this position will be for both paper mill and packaging/converting raw materials (mill examples: bulk gasses (oxygen, CO2), Low Density Polyethylene, Sulfuric Acid and possibly other categories such as dyes and colorants; converting examples: wax, stamping foil and possibly supporting category managers in other categories such as ink and adhesives)
This role will engage paper mill and plant personnel, division representatives, and senior level stakeholders. Effective communication is critical to the success of a Raw Material Category Manager at WestRock. A candidate must be able to balance both the tactical and strategic nature of this position.
The Raw Material Category Manager will be based in Richmond, VA or Atlanta, GA and will report to the Vice President, Procurement.
How you will impact WestRock:
Strategic Sourcing
Gather and standardize purchasing history data
Create and analyze requests for proposals
Develop short/mid/long-term sourcing strategies aligned with the business goals
Recommend, implement, and manage a variety of contract types
Category Management
Build a category strategy with operations input and alignment
Facilitating contract execution
Implementing programs across multiple locations
Supplier performance management
Drive and support operational compliance
Project Management
Implementation of new suppliers, materials or part with the support of operations
Own projects from idea to implementation to drive continuous improvement
What you need:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Supply Chain Management, or Engineering
Experience in operations, or supporting operations in a heavy industrial operation
Team leadership experience; managing teams of individuals in Operations, R&D, Finance, Legal and other groups to drive toward a specific outcome.
Strong analytical and planning capabilities are a must, as is the ability to appropriately summarize key issues and provide insightful guidance.
Proficiency in computer skills including MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Well-developed oral and written communication skills with the ability to prepare and deliver presentations to all levels in the organization, including Executive Leadership
Ability to easily build rapport with stakeholders and deal with conflict.
Ability to travel (10% - 20%)
