WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

In the role you will translate business strategies and objectives into strategic technical direction, working implementations, and have these key responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Multi-Cloud Architecture: Design, develop, and deploy scalable, secure, and highly available cloud-agnostic solutions that meet Nike's business needs across multiple cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.).

  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and guidance to cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with company objectives and industry trends.

  • Cloud Governance: Provide technical leadership to design, develop, and implement scalable solutions to support Nike’s cloud strategy through the implementation of governance capabilities (policy automation, compliance monitoring and detection, compliance reporting).

  • Cloud Interoperability: Develop and maintain expertise in cloud interoperability, ensuring seamless integration and migration between different cloud platforms. Innovation: Identify opportunities for innovation and develop proof-of-concepts (POCs) or minimum viable products (MVPs) to demonstrate the value of new technologies or approaches.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with various stakeholders, including business leaders, product managers, and engineering teams, to understand requirements and design solutions that meet their needs.

  • Cloud Engineering: Develop and maintain a deep understanding of cloud computing platforms, services, and tools.

  • Technology Roadmap: Contribute to the development of Nike's technology roadmap inclusive of governance capabilities, ensure alignment with architecture, product and engineering platform teams.

  • Mentorship: Mentor and coach junior engineers, sharing knowledge and expertise to help them grow in their careers.

  • Lead strategy, architecture and implementation of innovative multi-cloud solutions that are scalable, resilient, and cost-effective.

  • Leads feasibility analysis and serves as technical leader for the most complex cross functional initiatives.

  • Lead the engineering transition of existing infrastructure to a multi-cloud images, ensuring seamless migration and integration.

  • Acts as an advisor to senior management and stakeholders on advanced/emerging technologies and their applications in cloud and infrastructure technology.

  • Work closely with other departments to proactively ensure cloud engineering capabilities are capable of handling emerging and future business requirements.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

This role reports to the Director of Cloud Governance Engineering and will connect across all levels of Infrastructure Engineering Organization. In addition will partner closely with Enterprise Architecture, Product Management, the Engineering Community, and key partners across Global and Geographies.

WHAT YOU BRING

To make it clear, we're not looking for just anyone. We're looking for someone special, someone who has these experiences and clearly demonstrates these skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or additional related engineering experience.

  • Minimum 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on cloud computing, architecture, and multi-cloud engineering.

  • Deep expertise in multiple cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), including design, development, and deployment across these environments.

  • Strong technical leadership skills, with experience guiding cross-functional teams and influencing technical direction.

  • Knowledge of cloud governance principles, strategy, risk, compliance.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Innovative problem-solving skills, with a track record of developing creative solutions to complex technical challenges.

  • Strong technical leadership skills, with experience guiding cross-functional teams and influencing technical direction.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in designing and deploying cloud-based solutions for large-scale consumer-facing applications.

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, such as continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).

  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and Scrum framework.

  • Certifications in cloud computing platforms or related technologies.

  • 8+ years software engineering experience as an individual contributor developing custom software using common system like Java, Python, Rust, and/or JavaScript.

  • 7+ years professional experience with AWS or other major cloud provider.

  • 5+ years in as lead engineering role for a platform depended on by multiple application teams. Responsible for architecture decisions and direct technical leadership over engineering teams focused on delivering enterprise scale systems.

  • Engineering life-cycle management of software infrastructure

  • Establish best-practice software engineering methodologies for a global, 24x7, high-volume, high-availability, critical production environment, based on metrics-based KPIs

  • Prior experience in working with engineering teams through major technology transitions.

  • Security development operations knowledge, application, and appreciation.

  • Governance, risk and compliance knowledge and appreciation.

  • Managing change relative to engineering platforms and organizational dynamics.
