Microsoft Corporation Principal Electrical Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As an Principal Electrical Engineer in the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Office of CO+I, you will be responsible for developing new innovative products and solutions for Microsoft's data center infrastructure, including uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, power distribution units (PDUs), and power management software. You will work closely with other engineers, product managers, and customers to design, prototype, test, and deliver high-quality and reliable electrical products that meet the performance, efficiency, and scalability requirements of Microsoft's cloud services.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and developing electrical circuits, schematics, layouts, and components for data center power products, such as UPS systems, PDUs, and power converters.

  • Performing electrical simulations, analysis, and testing to verify the functionality, performance, and reliability of the products.

  • Collaborating with mechanical, thermal, firmware, and software engineers to integrate electrical products into the data center system.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving electrical issues and defects during the product development and deployment phases.

  • Evaluating and selecting electrical components, vendors, and manufacturing partners for the products.

  • Preparing and reviewing technical documentation, specifications, and reports for the products.

  • Conducting research and staying updated on the latest trends and technologies in the data center power domain.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of technical engineering experienceo OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experienceo OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experienceo OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience.

  • 3+ years' experience with mission critical electrical systems

  • 3+ years experience with energy systems analysis, electrical systems design software, distributed medium voltage transformer, branched circuits

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years of technical engineering experienceo OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experienceo OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience.

  • Experience with cross-discipline systems design (mechanical, structural, IT/Telecom, supervisory control and data acquisition).

  • Data center systems design, power management for information technology, rectifying and uninterrupted power supply systems design

Electrical Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
