JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.The Emory Department of Neurology is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work on the development and application of novel MRI techniques focusing on the imaging of CNS. The position provides excellent opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary environment and have close interactions with MR physicists, Radiologists, neuroscientists etc. Access to two research-dedicated MR 3T Siemens (one PRISMA and the other Tim-Trio) scanners, one 9.4T animal scanner, and a powerful computer-cluster is available. The Emory University Hospital also houses a clinical 3T Siemens Tim-Trio scanner and is an excellent resource for translational/clinical studies. Responsibilities include joining the research team of the Emory Healthy Aging Study (EHAS), a $25 million project, and conducting research in one or more of the following areas (1) development of advanced quantitative MRI imaging acquisition techniques for applications in ageing (Alzheimer’s disease), including oxygenation measurement, arterial spin labeling, dynamic susceptibility contrast, CEST or quantitative susceptibility imaging, and (2) development of post-processing methods for extracting quantitative features from medical images and machine learning methods for the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment monitoring of neurological diseases. The initial projects depend on the experience of the candidate and the scope of the EHAS. Some of the specific responsibilities will include: Adapt pulse and monitor sequences for Emory Healthy Aging Study (EHAS).Work with MR technologists to acquire data for EHAS.Develop electronic database for images from EHAS.Transfer images from scanner to database for EHAS within 24 hrs of acquisition.Assess quality of images within 72 hours of acquisition.Develop image analysis techniques for EHAS.Perform data analyses for EHAS.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
-The candidate should have a PhD degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field, and should have a strong background in MR physics and experiences in quantitative analysis. Candidates with a PhD in Neuroscience and a strong background in neuroimaging (MRI) data acquisition and analysis also may be considered. The candidate should also demonstrate independent research capabilities, and have good organizational and inter-personal skills. Excellent proficiency with C/C++ and/or Matlab programming language is required. Experience on Siemens IDEA/ICE or other pulse-sequence programming environment is a plus but not necessary.-63044BR
