JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
This position will offer opportunities to develop statistical methods for the analysis of high-dimensional clinical and biological longitudinal data to better understand the heterogeneity underlying neurodegenerative diseases. The following two research areas are of particular interest: 1) scalable and robust methods of latent trajectory class analysis with adjustment for informative missing data patterns; and 2) joint models of latent trajectory classes and times to competing-risks events. The postdoc will be mentored by Drs. John Hanfelt and Limin Peng in the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics. The successful candidate is expected to conduct independent methodological research including writing peer-reviewed publications for statistical journals, giving presentations at professional conferences, and developing stand-alone statistical software, such as R packages. Extensive interactions with graduate students and faculty are expected. In addition, the successful candidate will have opportunities to conduct collaborative research at the Emory Alzheimer¿s Disease Research Center Company Information: The Department includes 35 primary faculty members, and approximately 40 PhD students and 70 masters students. Rollins School of Public Health currently employs over 190 full-time faculty members and enrolls over 1200 full- and part-time graduate students in its MPH, MSPH and doctoral programs.
