In this role, the Investment Associate will support Truist Community Capital’s Fund and Alternative Investments team that deploys capital predominantly through equity investments in SBIC funds, LIHTC multi-investor funds, and other impact focused private equity investment vehicles. The Associate will support the breadth of the Team’s activities with a focus on the SBIC investments and connectivity across Truist for referring and structuring investments into pipeline opportunities and financing for portfolio companies. The Investment Associate 1 has a strong understanding of the credit and capital products and facilitates proactive identification and analysis of opportunities – exhibiting creativity around idea generation. Takes ownership of projects in coordination with assigned Relationship Managers. The Associate collaborates with Relationship Managers on due diligence of investment strategies and to identify credit worthy projects within targeted markets and assists with the prioritization of relationship calling strategies. Supplements analysis with research and evaluations from a wide variety of sources to develop an assessment of client, competitor, property segment, market and industry risks and trends. The Investment Associate 1 may be assigned to a selected Relationship Manager(s) and may also partner closely with a Portfolio Management team to provide assistance with the ongoing portfolio maintenance activities and client relationship support of certain relationships or portfolios.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Analysis: Deal review, information summaries and overall relationship and portfolio analysis.

  2. Business Development: Prospecting and market research, building and maintaining a prospecting database. Willingness to engage with current and prospective Fund Managers.

  3. Sales Disciplines: Ownership of pre-call planning strategies for selected clients and/or RMs, sales tools management

  4. Client Support: Attends client calls and meetings with assigned Relationship Manager(s), supports and participates in client planning end-to-end process

  5. Support senior teammates in day-to-day management of responsibilities and mentorship of CRE Analysts.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  2. 2-3 years’ combined Commercial Real Estate experience.

  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  4. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products.

  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  6. Knowledge of credit principles.

  7. Ability to handle multiple priorities under time constraints.

  8. Demonstrated success working in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Masters in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business, or experience through internships or other experiences; or an equivalent combination of educational and experience or other related advanced degree.

  2. 2 years’ experience in underwriting and deal structuring (investment banking, commercial banking, or private equity/credit) and/or equivalent experience in a Credit Delivery role.

  3. Background in Lower Middle Market operating business transaction structuring.

  4. Strong interest in affordable housing and private equity/impact investing

  5. Understanding of private equity/credit fund structures.
