The Division of Advancement and Alumni Engagement utilizes resources, technology, and business for the purpose of soliciting alumni, donor engagement, donor research, and stewardship throughout Emory University and Health Systems. We are currently seeking an Executive Director of Regional Advancement.

The Advancement and Alumni Engagement Regional Advancement team keeps alumni, parents, and other constituents informed about Emory’s work both on campus and out in the world, with the purpose of generating philanthropic support for all areas of the university. These local and regionally based fundraisers work to strengthen Emory’s donor relationships and presence in key constituent markets. This leadership position will report to the Assistant Vice President for Regional, International, and Parent Advancement.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Develops and implements strategies for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting individuals, corporations, and foundations for major gifts to support educational and research programs.

  • Responsible for leading the regional advancement team, deans and academic administrators, and other faculty to generate private gifts to support the program(s).

  • Must also be able to function as an integral part of a team, which designs and implements successful fundraising programs that include annual giving, planned giving, and major gifts to maximize private gift support.

  • Identifies potential sources of private gift support and recommend appropriate strategies and programs to generate major gifts to support the educational and/or research activities.

  • Plans and implements programs that informs and cultivates individuals, corporations and foundations with the capability of making gifts to support the institution; works with other members of the division to assure that potential gift prospects are properly researched and assigned, coordinated and completed, and donors receive appropriate acknowledgments and recognition.

  • Provide staff assistance to regional development officers in the identification and solicitation of major gift prospects; coordinates and oversees the production of appropriate fundraising materials including, but not limited to, case statements, brochures, solicitation letters, gift proposals, appreciation letters, donor reports, campaign status reports, etc.; prepares budgets for fundraising projects, allocates costs to the appropriate unit(s), obtains necessary administrative approvals, and provides periodic progress reports to appropriate offices; determines assessment and cultivation visits to major gift prospects.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS: In addition to the duties outlined above, the Executive Director may be required to:

  • Meet division metrics for visit preparation, qualification, contact reports, visits, referrals, and accurate coding using the CRM system.

  • Represent the department, school/unit, division, or University.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and ten years of experience in fundraising.

PREFERRED QUALFICATIONS:

  • Successful candidates will possess experience as lead solicitor, closing gifts of $1M+ from prospects.

  • Prior experience working with designing and implementing fundraising programs, comprehensive campaigns, alumni engagement in a university setting.

  • Experience managing budgets and financial reports, working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, mass email applications, database and project management software, and CRM systems.

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, navigate a complex work environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Experience leading teams, working independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals, with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. Master’s level degree.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as effective presentation skills.

  • Possess a high level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality with sound judgment and discretion.

  • Capacity to lead and develop a team’s skills through effective feedback and coaching, motivating and empowering colleagues while being institutionally minded, strategic, and impactful.

  • Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed and at times, on short notice. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
