As aDirector of Digestive Diseasesand scientific researcher in Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Medicine, this visionary leader will strengthen Emory’s expertise and leadership in the areas of research, education and clinical care in digestive diseases. He/she will lead the Division of Digestive Diseases to support strong basic, translational and clinical and health systems research in areas such as immunity, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and liver fibrosis. The Director of Digestive Diseases will be actively engaged in leading all aspects of digestive disease research at Emory including work in mucosal immunology, the microbiome, drug discovery, cancer, diabetes and metabolic syndrome, the exposome, human genetics, biomedical engineering, and infectious diseases.

The Director of Digestive Diseases works closely with Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, Emory Healthcare and affiliate leadership to lead, manage and promote digestive disease patient care, teaching and research. This position includes responsibility for faculty development, clinical physicians in the division, management of the division, oversight for the division’s education programs and the development of research for the division. This position establishes programs that enhance the academic reputation of the division and improve quality of care, and play a visible role in digestive diseases research and the strategic direction of the division for the Department of Medicine.

The Division Director also works closely with the leadership of The Emory Clinic and Emory Healthcare to ensure high quality digestive disease service to all patients, to coordinate digestive disease services across multiple medical facilities and affiliates, and to exercise appropriate operations of digestive disease physicians and financial management of services. The Director of Digestive Diseases works closely with the Chair of the Department of Medicine to develop progressive clinical programs involving digestive disease care and plans new innovative programs and services.

The individual will provide leadership in all clinical, educational and research endeavors involving digestive disease for the faculty of the Division of Digestive Diseases, with responsibility for the continued development of an academically distinguished Division of Digestive Diseases for the Department of Medicine. Candidates should possess a minimum of five (5) years of clinical, educational or research leadership experience. S/he will be an accomplished operational and strategic leader with direct administrative experience to include a broad understanding of complex health strategies and issues challenging the field of digestive diseases and its medical education programs.-80413BR
