The role of Database Administrator is to identify and implement improvements of operational support systems and processes across a diverse portfolio to optimize the value chain. This is an exciting role where you will be empowered to identify and prioritize opportunities to simplify and optimize. Coordinate with developers, system analysts, engineers, and functional managers to maintain operational stability, security, and availability. This individual will ensure that all solutions, with related procedures, adhere to organizational standards, controls and best practices, according to industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain database solutions adhering to company standards and industry best practices Drive to identify root cause, leading to action avoiding reoccurrence, enabling focus on higher value opportunities Take responsibility for the overall planning, execution and success of complex database projects Support projects thru full SDLC life cycle (inception, design, implementation, migration/cutover planning, production support/maintenance, etc.) Implement, maintain, and enhance backup/recovery strategy, High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, best standards configurations, and database maintenance solutions Lead efforts for performance tuning, simplified administration, and continuous availability Lead security, compliance, and audit efforts Proactively monitor all database systems to maximize availability and minimize downtime/performance degradation Create and maintain documentation on standards, procedures, and processes Facilitate continuous improvement through innovation, continuous learning, and industry best practices Liaise with vendors, customers, and other IT personnel on triaging problem resolution and new initiatives Help coordinate dependencies across multiple projects and products through active partnerships with other engineering teams, vendors, and customers

Required Skills/Qualifications

While it is not required to have expert knowledge of every database services tool, process and technology in the spectrum, it is required to have a strong working knowledge with many of the following technologies, or their commercial or open-source equivalents. Broad awareness of different areas of database services is essential, coupled with willingness to expand the knowledge.

7 years of experience with operational database administration on MS SQL Server 7 years of SQL Server 2008/2012/2014/2016/2017/2019/2022 7 years writing complex SQL (stored procedures, triggers, agent jobs, maintenance scripts, etc.) Comprehensive understanding of SQL Server features. Knowledge to determine which features are most suited in various scenarios to address technical and business needs Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems involving a diverse portfolio of technologies, applications, sites, vendors, and customers in mid and large cap companies Experience conducting in depth evaluations, diagnosing, troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues Experience with backups, restores, various recovery models, and backup and restore strategies Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring, custom scripts, and 3rd party ools Proven ability to manage databases 10TB in size containing tables with 1B rows Experience migrating multi-terabyte SQL Server databases between different sites and/or cloud with minimal downtime Demonstrated understanding of SQL Server wait types, query options and hints, execution plans, locking and blocking Good knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics Experience managing multiple database instances leveraging PowerShell and community toolkits such as DBA Tools Experience setting up and maintaining transactional replication and change data capture Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MS SQL Server Experience setting up and maintaining AlwaysOn Availability Groups running on WFC Experience with database and data modeling, physical and logical design, for both OLTP and OLAP system Excellent understanding of ITIL best practices, including change management, incidents, and requests Experience working with windows servers, including proper OS, disk, and network configurations Strong data and business analysis skills Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills Ability to speak the language of other teams (networking, cloud, devops, etc.) to facilitate productive communications Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
