Emory University Associate Scientist (AR)--Winship Cancer Tissue and Pathology Shared Resource in atlanta, Georgia
The Associate Research Scientist will serve as the Technical Director for the Winship Cancer Tissue and Pathology Shared Resource (SR). Responsibilities will include the daily management of the SR including supervision of staff, oversight of project management for submitted projects, consultation with Winship investigators on study design, collaboration with the Scientific Director and Winship Administration on annual budgeting and operating plan.
In order to advance tissue based research programs, familiarity with human subject based research and knowledge of methods to optimize the quality of tissue based research and efficient used of human tissues would be a valuable asset. Familiarity with writing IRB, Biosafety and other approval documents would be helpful in the completion of projects. Experience in the management and completion of submitted scientific projects, protocol development, facilitating training of the other team members, knowledge of quality assurance of research methods, and assisting in grant and other funding applications would be essential skills. Investigation and publication of the development of instrumentation, development of methods and quality improvement projects would be encouraged. The candidate will create and update documentation regarding tissue acquisition and processing through the Tissue procurement shared resources. Performs other responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: PhD or MD and five years of professional level experience OR Master's degree and ten years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab. Laboratory experience will be based on area of assignment. Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification.
• Project management experience
• Laboratory management experience, including familiarity with quality management programs and CAP biorepository certification
• Knowledge of human subjects research rules and regulations
• Familiarity/Willingness to become familiar with laboratory information management systems such as Openspecimen and databases such as REDcap and Oncore
