The Associate General Counsel will join an outstanding group of teammates representing Emory University and Emory Healthcare on challenging matters confronting one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers that includes highly ranked Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health, a national primate research center, the only National Cancer Institute–designated comprehensive cancer institute in Georgia, a global health institute that supports initiatives in nearly 100 countries, and a leading research enterprise that receives more than one billion dollars in annual sponsored research funding and is responsible for the development of lifesaving treatments such as angioplasty, drug-eluting stents, and the most successful and commonly used HIV/AIDS drugs in the world.

You will represent Georgia’s most comprehensive health system that cares for patients making more than 6 million visits to Emory each year and that encompasses 11 hospitals, more than 490 outpatient provider locations, and the largest clinically integrated network in the state, with more than 3,450 physicians concentrating in 70 different subspecialties.

Are you ready?

The Associate General Counsel’s duties will include:

  • Advising on a broad spectrum of health care business opportunities, including counseling and contract review and negotiation

  • Providing legal analysis and advice concerning health care regulatory compliance, physician-hospital relationships, and a wide variety of health care operational issues

  • Developing new areas of sub-specialty as needs may arise

  • Duties also may include participation on health care committees as the legal advisor

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Work well on a team

  • Have outstanding verbal and written communication skills

  • Display high levels of emotional intelligence, including kindness, empathy, optimism, and self-awareness

  • Approach work with a commitment to excellence, intellectual curiosity, strong work ethic, and integrity

  • Have excellent judgment, client counseling, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills

  • Have a license to practice law in a U.S. state, and excellent academic credentials

  • Preferably have a minimum of five years of legal experience in the health care field

Previous experience with academic medical centers, physician group practices, health care delivery systems, and/or in-house legal departments is a plus.

Where will I work?

Where would you like to work? We have an office waiting for you in the heart of the university, where our Atlanta-area team members can collaborate two days a week (more or less, as needed).
