This position in International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) provides day-to-day oversight of the admissions I-20/DS-2019 issuance process and related functions including incoming student support, immigration check-in and SEVIS registration.
The position is part of the walk-in advising rotation, among other duties. The position supervises an Immigration Specialist who also handles I-20/DS-2019 issuance and related tasks. Analyzes and applies federal immigration regulations and Emory University policies to advise international students, scholars, faculty, their dependents, administrators, and staff (including one walk-in advising assignment per week) regarding federal immigration and employment regulations, Emory resources, and related matters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as a DSO and ARO for Emory and performs associated duties, including ensuring timely resolution of requests, alert management, and record upkeep in both IOM and SEVIS.
Uses regulatory training and knowledge to independently analyze, interpret, and make decisions about student and scholar cases and provides appropriate advice based on analysis.
Co-conducts (with Immigration Specialist) multiple (3x per year) webinars to assist students through the I-20 request process.
Monitors SEVIS (US government database) and Sunapsis (ISSS-used vendor software) alerts to ensure governmental compliance.
Coordinates the immigration-document issuance process.
Processes approximately half of I-20 and DS-2019 requests within a strict timeframe.
Resolves student questions via Zoom or email.
Adjusts I- 20s/DS-2019s for deferred and withdrawn students.
Gathers and coordinates dissemination of information regarding new or revised policies and procedures, responds to inquiries regarding departmental policies and procedures and makes referrals when appropriate.
May manage projects related to student progress, enrollment, registration, and recruitment.
May serve as liaison and facilitator among program faculty, students, and administration to resolve registration, admissions, and other program-related concerns.
May represent the program(s) at recruitment events, conferences, meetings, seminars, and other events.
May be required to present and speak on behalf of the program(s).
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's degree and two years of experience working with academic programs or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
