First Overview
Responsible for efficiency improvements in manual/robotic welding, spot-welding, and metal finish through the use of technology and improved methods. This position has the responsibility for compliance with all customer weld specifications and programs. This position is also responsible for teaching, training and continuous improvements in all areas related to welding.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Issues written setup and process sheets documenting settings and welding parameters for welding operations. These will be known as WPS sheets.
Create and monitor weld tests for qualification of welders.
Review and analyze customer part prints, specifications and other documentation to develop production quotations covering the welding of product. This will include production rates, set-up time, and tooling requirements.
Work with the Process Engineers to develop, review and maintain production welding set-up specs.
Recommend method revisions including process equipment, materials and tooling to improve production performances and provide cost reduction opportunities.
Confer with Sales Engineers and Manufacturing to provide technical advice and problem resolution.
Know and provide welder training in weld symbols, use of weld gages, defect identification and resolution.
Identify and make proposals for new technology related to welding processes.
Develop ROI's related to new technology recommendations.
Monitor and develop CI plans related to increasing "green light" time on robotic welding equipment.
Support NPI related to the welding processes.
Perform weld station audits and drive corrective actions where necessary.
Determine methods of rework when necessary.
Support RCCA related to welding processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Associations (A.S.) or Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a two or four-year College or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CWI certification is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret arious types of data, especially drawings/prints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information both orally and in written form and to respond to questions from groups of managers, customers and other employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to interpret drawings in both English and Metric, and geometric tolerances. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, trigonometry, geometry and statistics.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to read 2D and 3D drawings and customer specifications
Knowledge of computers (Excel and Word would be helpful.
Knowledge of methods/time studies and ability to calculate run rates
Capability to determine the most cost-effective method to weld parts
Ability to use a calculator
Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
Detail oriented
Ability to learn the MEC quoting system and to use it to determine welding standards and cost justifications
Knowledge of welding fixtures and jigs and tooling is very beneficial
