Menlo School Assistant Director of Sports Performance in Atherton, California

This position reports directly to and works in coordination with the Director of Sports Performance, as well as collaborating with other members of sports performance and medicine staff as needed daily. Essential duties include, but are not limited to, design and implementation of strength and conditioning programming, management of sports science technologies, data collection and entry, ongoing physical performance testing and evaluations, weight room return to play programming, and physical preparation/recovery implementations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director of Sports Performance to ensure a unified approach for athletic development and sports performance methodologies across departments.

  • Deliver dynamic, high-performance strategies to foster a competitive, nurturing training environment for athlete and coach success.

  • Create a positive culture of physical and mental well-being for all student-athletes.

  • Assist with the design and implementation of strength training and conditioning programs for in-season, off-season, and pre-season for all school-sanctioned athletic programs in a manner that reflects research-driven practice.

  • Utilize applied science technologies for ongoing assessment and analysis of identified key performance indicators (Ex: Force Plate, Velocity Based Training, GPS, speed development, power assessment, etc.).

  • Work in cooperation with the sports medicine staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.

  • Assist with weight room-based Return to Play progressions by developing a clear framework to include consistent biofeedback (Ex: Force Plate, Velocity Based Training, GPS, etc.) for athletic performance.

  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the sports performance.

  • Educate and counsel the student-athlete regarding strategies to improve performance and wellness.

  • Educate and enforce weight room rules, safety procedures, and proper training techniques.

  • Maintain the strength and conditioning facilities, establish policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum three (3) years of full-time experience at the high-school, college, or professional level.

  • Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field.

  • CSCS Certification by the NSCA, AND/OR SCCC Certification by the CSCCa OR PES Advanced Certification by the NASM.

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification

  • Highly motivated, positive energy individual with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge and experience in the implementation of strength and conditioning programming for athletes through multiple age ranges and training levels.

  • Proven ability in the following areas: strength training, Olympic lifting, plyometrics, speed training, energy system development, flexibility, recovery, injury prevention methodologies, nutrition, performance sciences and analytics.

  • Experience in utilizing sports science platforms such as Force Plate, Velocity Based Training, and GPS.

  • Committed to personal and professional development.

  • Strong ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage many projects simultaneously.

  • Computer skills necessary in MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.

Pay range:

In the spirit of pay transparency we share the base salary range for this position for the 2024-2025 academic year. The full pay range, which encompasses all experience levels is $78,000 - $110,000. Within this broad range, we pay each employee in accordance with what could be reasonably expected based on an individual's experience level. Base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits, retirement plan employer contributions or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at Menlo are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at Menlo School, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, job level, part-time status and number of months of work per academic year. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the generous range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical for Menlo School in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
