Ohio University Assistant Director, Student-Alumni Engagement and Philanthropy Education in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Student-Alumni Engagement and Philanthropy Education supports the work of the Senior Associate Director of Student and Recent Alumni Engagement and is a key contributor to fostering a culture of engagement and philanthropy among Ohio University students. This role involves developing and implementing strategies to track student engagement, affinity, and financial giving in the alumni database. The Assistant Director collaborates with colleges, units, and student organizations to enhance student participation in Ohio University Alumni Association events and initiatives, educate on the value of philanthropy, and drive student-giving initiatives. The Assistant Director creates sustained growth in student participation, contributing to a thriving culture and tradition of engagement and philanthropy.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Student Programming and Engagement
  • Manage the development and implementation of a student-focused pipeline of alumni engagement from enrollment through commencement, ensuring intentional and meaningful engagement with alumni.

  • Implement touchpoints at key stages, such as orientation, Welcome Week, academic milestones, and graduation, to foster a sense of community and connection with alumni. (Bobcat Student Orientation, Welcome Week, annual programming, Grad Party, Senior Week, Leadership Gala Awards, commencement, etc.)

  • Partner with the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Parent and Family Engagement to jointly develop a communication and engagement plan.

  • Introduce initiatives designed to encourage students to participate in philanthropic activities, such as fundraising campaigns (Giving Tuesday, Giving Day, Senior Class Gift) and alumni-community service projects.

  • Develop educational programs on the significance of philanthropy in supporting the University.

  • Establish student volunteer programs that contribute to alumni engagement events and initiatives.

  1. Philanthropic Education and Alumni Impact
  • Lead the ongoing effort to educate current students on the value of the Bobcat Network by creating accounts and utilizing the platform’s resources.

  • Serve as a lead user of the Bobcat Network to elevate student programming and create consistent visibility of these efforts to both students and alumni

  • Develop a strategy for on-campus student philanthropy programs, providing educational opportunities and avenues for giving.

  • Develop educational programs encouraging student giving, including initiatives like the class gift program, Give Thanks November, Annual Giving Day, and campaigns.

  • Gather and curate first-person impact stories on the difference philanthropy and alumni support made on the student experience.

  • Collaborate with Annual Giving to develop a comprehensive plan for student engagement during major fundraising campaigns.

  1. Affinity Data Collection and Tracking
  • Identify major student organizations and affinity groups within colleges and units.

  • Research the efficacy of a student organization focused on philanthropy, making recommendations for establishment and setting operational guidelines.

  • Develop and maintain a process for tracking student engagement, affinity, and financial giving in the alumni/donor database in support of Annual Giving efforts.

  • Partner with colleges and units (Division of Student Affairs, Center for Student Engagement and Leadership, etc.) to ensure accurate collection of student participation in organizations, ambassador programs, and campus affinities.

  • Capture data on diverse student audiences, including undergraduates, graduates, international students, and medical students.

  1. Supervision of Student Alumni Board
  • Serve as the staff advisor to the Student Alumni Board ( SAB ) while providing strategic leadership regarding organizational structure, mission, and budget. Maintain and strengthen the collaboration between SAB and OUAA with a constant focus on connecting current students with OHIO alumni through professional development, networking, and annual programming.

  • Integrate philanthropy education into the Student Alumni Board, organizing a campus-wide philanthropy education event annually.

  1. Support the Senior Associate Director
  • Provide research assistance related to student and recent alumni engagement initiatives and program content.

  • Support the work of the Senior Associate Director as it relates to the student-to-alumni transition period and early recent alumni programming.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree and 1 year related, professional experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in student affairs including student support, engagement, advising and counseling.

Employment Type: full-time regular

Advertised Salary:

The proposed salary range for this position is $40,296 to $51,377. The salary negotiated at the time of offer will be commensurate with education and experience while also considering internal equity.
