Ohio University Assistant Dean, Business Academic Advising & Career Services in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

Ohio University College of Business invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean, Business Academic Advising & Career Services. The position is based on campus in beautiful Athens, Ohio and is set to begin on or after October 14, 2024.

The Assistant Dean, Business Academic Advising & Career Services will strategize with the Dean’s Office, departments, and centers to lead efforts to create a scalable and innovative student success best practices and solutions to reach all business students. The Assistant Dean plays a pivotal role in constructing a supportive and enriching academic environment that enables students to excel academically, develop professionally, and achieve their career goals. The position will lead the College of Business Academic Advising and Career Services ( BAACS ) to implement, analyze, and facilitate major university initiatives such as the OHIO Guarantee+ and OneOHIO as well as continuing to build relationships with students, faculty, employers, and alumni to assist in the academic, co-curricular and career growth of College of Business students. The role oversees analytics of student experiences, and that data is shared with the President’s office to inform the University Dynamic Strategy, along with being used to report to and maintain our AACSB Business accreditation. This role serves as the figure head and strategic visionary for the office, serving as both the spokesperson and advocate for student success, as well as developing and implementing strategies and initiatives to enhance all areas of student success in the College of Business

Primary Accountabilities:

Leadership – Lead the Business Academic Advising and Career Services ( BAACS ) Office Success Advisors and Career Coaches. Directly supervise the Associate Directors of Student Success, Career Management & Career Education and Career Management & Employer Relations, as well as Record Managers. Leadership includes continued evaluation and implementation of a strategic plan, oversight of assigned projects, best practices persistence & retention and process improvement. Work with College of Business Dean’s Office to improve efficiency and effectiveness of services offered for Athens programs as well as Regional Higher Education programs. Oversees the identification and analysis of key metrics to allow the BAACS team to collect and analyze student experiences data tied to learner successes for inform stakeholders including Office of the President, HLC , AACSB , and the Dean’s Office. Will also oversee leadership training among direct reports, assessing performance and adjusting strategies to meet and exceed goals. Engage with Alumni, employers and Executive Advisory Board to further the mission, vision and goals of the COB .

Academic Advising – Develop strategy that ensures our office continues to build relationships with students, providing academic advising to over 2600 undergraduate students, meet critical reporting and submission deadlines (e.g., degree conferrals, athletic verification). Resolve unique academic issues that arise. In consultation with department chairs and other executive members in the college, this position will create and update advising support documents, systems, website materials and improve advising/records management process. Collaborate with other departments such as Admissions, Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, and other offices to deliver university-wide academic programmatic efforts.

Career Management – Supervise hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development of Associate Directors and Assistant Directors of Career Management. Oversee the career education and recruitment efforts of College of Business students. Help facilitate career fairs and other programmatic and recruitment efforts. Create and maintain opportunities for employment recruitment efforts of College of Business students including career fairs, classroom visits, interviews, etc. Direct Associate Directors of Career Management on reporting, results and strategy for career education, outcomes, and national rankings.

Oversee College of Business BA 1000 and 2000 career management courses including identifying and training instructors. Oversee the Internship Immersion process (BA 3910). This includes creating and overseeing the analytics for assurance of learning, curriculum development and innovation, and pedagogy for all learners, including in person, online, hybrid, commuters, and non-traditional students. Collaborate with the career team, student organizations, and faculty to develop and facilitate workshops and networking opportunities for students. Coordinate efforts with the Central Career Center to collaborate on cross-disciplinary career-readiness and employer relations events.

OHIO Guarantee+ & Retention – Supervise the oversight of College of Business OHIO Graduation Plans. Respond to off-plan Graduation plans and collecting metrics to improve persistence and retention rates.

Employer Relations - Develop and manage employer relations staff, including 2 Associate Directors, graduate students, and undergraduate students. Cultivate current and new relationships with local and national employers to create job, internship, and experiential learning opportunities for students and establish hiring pipeline relationships with companies. Meet with key current and prospecting employers to understand their workforce needs and hiring trends. Organize workshops, networking events, guest lectures, panels, industrial tourism career-focused trips, and career fairs to enhance students’ professional skills and connections. Oversee the First Destination Survey collection and reporting. Gather data on employer satisfaction with interns and graduates and their hiring experiences. Analyze employment trends and apply them to programmatic initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field by start date.

  • Experience with college-level advising and education

  • At least 6 years of relevant work experience

  • At least 3 years of management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

A proven record of leading an academic unit; a history of developing and implementing strategic initiatives.
