Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. Operating Supervisor (1H) - Engineering and Planning - Distribution Engineering in Astoria, New York

Overview

The Operating Supervisor will be responsible for direct supervision of electrical technicians and senior electrical technicians in conducting testing and analysis of distribution system equipment, including network transformers, padmount transformers, pole-type transformers, network protectors, capacitor banks, and associated instrumentation. This includes promotiong a safe work environment, planning and coordinating work, ensuring training compliance, fostering employee development, and resolving technical and operational issues. In addition, the Operating Supervisor will work closely with our team of engineers in overseeing equipment analysis and spec compliance, including failure root cause analysis, new equipment prototype evaluation, reconditioned equipment acceptance testing, and field support.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise technicians conducting testing and analysis of distribution system equipment, including transformers, network protectors, capacitor banks, and associated instrumentation.
  • Ensure training compliance and foster employee development.
  • Plan daily, weekly, and monthly work. Understand and improve work process flow. Communicate with various parties such as Distribution Engineering, Transformer Shop, Technical Service, Field Groups, Supply Chain, and Field Services to prioritise and coordinate work.
  • Oversee equipment failure analysis for network transformers and network protectors. Determine root causes of failure, track and trend failure data, and work with engineers to develop and improve programs to prevent equipment failures.
  • Ensure work meets specifications and quality standards of department.
  • Update operating procedures and engineering specifications as required.
  • Direct the safe operation of test equipment and machinery.
  • Monitor, control, and improve employee productivity and performance, using standardized reporting metrics.
  • May perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and with 2 years of work experience within Con Edison's various operating and suport organizations
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering and with 2 years of work experience within Con Edison's various operating and support organizations
Relevant Work Experience
  • Excellent planning, organizational and interpersonal skills Required
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment and render sound business decisions Required
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to work under pressure, and handle multiple concorrent assignments Required
  • Must be computer proficient. Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, and Powerpoint Required
  • Strong knowledge of Access, SharePoint, and SQL data structures Preferred
  • Electric Operations engineering field, or operations experience Preferred
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with both internal and external customers, support staff, and various levels of management
Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to inspire and develop staff
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.

Licenses And Certfications
  • Driver's License Required
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed
  • Position requires extensive walking, ladder climbing, and working indoors and outdoors in al weather conditions.
  • Position requires ability to enter sub-surface structures to inspect electrical equipment.
  • Must be computer proficient. Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, and Powerpoint required. Strong knowledge of Access, Sharepoint, and SQL data structures preferred.
  • Must be available for storm and emergency response situations and be willing and able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the department.

Minimum Salary: 80000.00 Maximum Salary: 135000.00 Salary Unit: Yearly
