The Safety Officer/Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring a safe and well-maintained environment across all facilities in the Stonewall Memorial Hospital District. This role involves planning, implementing, and overseeing safety protocols, as well as performing routine and emergency maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of safety regulations and a proactive approach to maintenance and safety improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Officer Duties:
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits, identifying hazards and ensuring corrective actions are taken promptly.
- Coordinate safety training programs for staff, ensuring awareness and compliance with safety standards and emergency procedures.
- Maintain detailed records of safety incidents, inspections, and training activities.
- Oversee fire safety systems, including conducting fire drills and ensuring all fire equipment is operational and up to code.
- Serve as a point of contact during emergency situations and collaborate with local emergency responders when needed.
- Participate in planning and readiness for CMS surveys and ensure compliance with all safety-related standards.
Maintenance Technician Duties:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural components.
- Ensure timely completion of work orders and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests and troubleshoot problems to minimize downtime.
- Assist in the upkeep of grounds and exterior facilities, ensuring a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, ordering replacements as necessary.
- Collaborate with the Central Supply team to ensure equipment is maintained and functioning efficiently.
- Document maintenance activities and provide reports as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; a technical certificate or associate degree in a related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in facility maintenance, with a background in healthcare or hospital environments preferred.
- Knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, CMS, NFPA) and experience in conducting safety training and audits.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and repair a variety of systems and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using maintenance tools and equipment.
- Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation purposes.
Compensation:
- Pay will be based on experience.
Additional Requirements:
- On-call availability will be required to address emergency maintenance needs.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in various environments, including indoor, outdoor, and confined spaces.
