This Opportunity

WSP is searching for a Senior Consultant Civil Engineer with a North Carolina PE or ability to obtain one within one year to join our Civil, Ground Engineering & Materials team in North Carolina. The preferred home office location is Asheville.

The successful candidate will support grading and drainage design, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, industrial solid waste, dam maintenance, commercial/industrial land development, and similar projects for our long-term local client base in the Energy, Municipal, and Industrial Sectors. The position relies heavily on team leadership characteristics combined with technical experience with hydrology, hydraulics, grading, and erosion and sediment control design. As a civil engineer, you will be responsible for execution of calculations, design options, reports, agency reviews and construction drawings for civil design projects. Anticipated workload will support regional pursuits and active projects.

Your Impact

  • Manage small projects

  • Coordinate with other senior engineering staff, lead junior team members, project stakeholders and other disciplines to manage an organized approach to project execution

  • Design erosion and sediment control measures in compliance with state requirements

  • Prepare site grading using AutoCAD Civil3D

  • Design hydraulic systems (closed and open conduits) as required

  • Perform hydrologic analyses (evaluate NOAA data, soil types, topography and land use, delineate watershed boundary conditions in the pre and post conditions)

  • Prepare client-ready reports and drawings

  • Evaluate design options and understand cost/benefit of solutions

  • Design stormwater management facilities based regulatory requirements and client needs

  • Contribute to the design of waste management facilities

  • Prepare permit applications and respond to agency (owner) comments in design

  • Negotiate with the client to provide cost effective solutions

  • Prepare scope of work and costing documents for proposals

  • Prepare construction drawings and specifications to implement designs

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university

  • 5-7 years of professional engineering experience

  • North Carolina PE or ability to obtain within one year

  • Project management and team leadership skills

  • Adhere to corporate/office standards for safety and quality of work

  • Set a high standard for product excellence

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient with recent software versions of AutoCAD Civil3D, Microsoft Office, and HydroCAD (or similar). Knowledge of Hydraflow Storm Sewers Hydraflow Hydrographs, HEC-RAS and/or HEC-HMS
