About our opportunity:

The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Project Manager II in the Public Facilities Management Division, in the Capital Management Department. The department is responsible for overseeing the design and construction of public infrastructure projects that enhance the community's quality of life. This project management position will focus on facility improvement projects including management of repair and replacement of mechanical and building envelope systems, renovation projects in city offices, operations, public safety, and recreation facilities, and various aesthetic improvements.

  • What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead project planning, design, construction, and contract administration efforts for renovation, repair, or new construction projects.

  • Partner with the facility maintenance team to identify, prioritize, and plan capital maintenance and repair projects in City-owned facilities, and to ensure the smooth handoff of maintenance plans after projects are complete.

  • Coordinate with client departments to determine the scope of improvements to provide facilities that enable occupants to give their best in the service to our city.

  • Manage project budgets, costs, and schedules while ensuring effective communication with cross-functional project teams.

  • Maintain service delivery or mitigate interruptions during renovations in occupied spaces.

  • Work independently and collaboratively with other City staff members, contractors, and architectural and engineering professionals.

  • Ensure adherence to City standards, and regulations throughout project development and construction.

  • Provide leadership for a variety of projects, with the potential to manage new construction projects based on qualifications and department needs.

  • Benefits:

  • Salary: $74,487.25 - $81,935.98

    About you:

    We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered :

  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 years of applicable experience in facilities specific project management, and a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, or Civil Engineering, or Project/Construction Management; or

  • 5+ years of applicable experience in facilities specific project management experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional licensure as a registered architect or engineer will be considered in the context of the City’s Project Manager Career Ladder.

    Other things to know:

  • Work Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with the option to exercise a flexible work schedule after the training period is complete.
