Job Summary and Qualifications

The Mental Health Clinician Team Lead provides comprehensive first evaluations for patients requiring involuntary commitments including completion of appropriate legal documentation to ensure proper compliance in the involuntary commitment process. Provides emergency psychiatric and substance abuse assessments, diagnosis, and appropriate crisis intervention/supportive counseling/social work interventions to include referral and placement at other inpatient facilities and outpatient discharge planning, to patients/families identified by the Emergency Department as having significant psychiatric and substance abuse needs. Must be flexible and adjust well to the needs of a fast paced environment. Provides clinical supervision to Master’s level or Bachelor level mental health student interns. Responsible and accountable for daily operations of Behavioral Health Intake department. Advocates and allocates resources to promote efficient, effective, safe, quality and compassionate care based on current standards of practice. Integrates clinical, human resource, and financial data to support decision making. Promotes research and integrates evidence-based practice into clinical, operational, and leadership processes. Ensures compliance with regulatory and professional standards.

What you will do in this role:

  • Supports department by responding to telephone inquiries from persons seeking psychiatric healthcare or information about psychiatric-related services.

  • Upon referral from Emergency Department, conducts psychiatric, substance abuse assessment, and/or commitment evaluations for patients with significant mental health symptoms to including suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, psychosis, and substance abuse, to determine appropriate level of care.

  • Conducts commitment evaluations and coordinates involuntary commitment process for patients who present themselves in the emergency room who meet criteria established by the State

  • Ensures good communication by reporting to community/state agencies any patient issues as required by law and collaborates with community agencies in accordance with HIPPA.

  • Under the direction of the physician, facilitates admissions to Copestone and other inpatient facilities including the completion of all necessary documentation and commitment paperwork, and maintains up-to-date knowledge of community resources in order to provide appropriate discharge planning when appropriate.

  • Enhances professional growth and development by participating in related activities.

  • Functional Team Lead for Mental Health Clinician III • Contributes to professional development of staff, students, and colleagues in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. • Supports departmental operations by completing other duties as assigned or requested

What Qualifications you will need:

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Ph.D. in Psychology or other equivalent degree in a recognized mental health field

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 7-10 years post graduate experience in mental health

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Ph.D Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist, or other appropriate licensure as related to education. Must have State 1st Evaluation Credentialing and be a Notary and be BLS certified.
