Amazon Technical Program Manager, Amazon Security in Arlington, Virginia

Description

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Arlington, VA, USA | Herndon, VA, USA

The Amazon Security Enterprise Protection team builds tools and services for the monitoring and response to malicious activity on the Amazon internal network. We collect, process, and analyze data from all parts of Amazon's worldwide infrastructure to identify and reduce risks to Amazon.

We are looking for a Technical Program Manager (TPM) who is adept at managing all aspects of a security engineering project, balancing the constraints of engineering with the needs of the customers. The TPM should be able to stretch the boundaries of what is possible with today's technology while managing the expectations of the customers. A successful TPM for this group is someone who can determine the immediate needs of customers and can translate those into concrete requirements for the engineering team, ensuring that the system is built to be usable in the short-term and robust enough to be expanded in the long-term. In addition to caring for development projects, this TPM also ensures that the engineering team has the appropriate access to data resources by proactively reaching out to the respective teams in Amazon who own the data.

This team centers around the need to build tools quickly that solve problems (both small and large) for the customers. The customers may be under time constraints or facing a problem they may not have seen before. As a TPM in Enterprise Protection, it will be up to you to appropriately translate both the need and the urgency to the engineering team. The TPM should be proficient in balancing the current and future workload of the engineering team with the expectations of time to delivery of the project to the customers.

Ideally, this TPM should have technical capabilities that help them understand the complexity of software development projects – they should be familiar with coding concepts and the process of moving code through the development process to production. Additionally, this TPM should be able to assist in debugging by examining software logs or running SQL queries to examine sample data and ensure data integrity.

A successful TPM in this role is able to balance the available engineering and development resources with the asks from customers and management. Communication of the state of projects and resources should be easily and readily accessible to peers and managers.
