Where you’ll work:

You will work onsite in Crystal City, VA initially and then transition to onsite in Manassas, VA within the first year.

An average day:

As Information Systems Security Engineer II, you will play a key technical role responsible for designing, implementing, and managing advanced security measures to protect enterprise-wide systems and sensitive data within a highly regulated federal contract environment. As a technical expert, the ISSE will work closely with the Information Assurance (IA) Analyst team, IT stakeholders, and executive leadership to drive security strategies, security architect solutions, and respond to evolving threats. This hands-on role will apply an in-depth understanding of security engineering practices, ensure compliance assurance with federal standards, vulnerability resolution and proactively manage risks within complex domestic and international infrastructures. Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Architect, design, and deploy robust security controls and mechanisms in line with federal standards such as NIST, FISMA, RMF, and other applicable regulations to secure both on-premises and cloud environments.

  • Conduct detailed technical risk assessments, vulnerability assessments, and security audits; develop and implement tailored mitigation strategies to reduce system vulnerabilities and risks.

  • Ensure up to date process and procedure documentation for the team.

  • Oversee Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems, conduct deep analysis of security events, and lead technical incident response efforts, including investigation, root cause analysis, and remediation.

  • Provide subject matter expertise and technical guidance to stakeholders, including IT, engineering, and executive leadership, to integrate security requirements seamlessly into system architecture and configuration.

  • Serve as a technical expert in network security, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and encryption technologies; ensure ongoing compliance through continuous monitoring, STIG assessments, and vulnerability management.

  • Utilize scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to automate security processes, optimize workflows, and improve operational efficiency in threat detection and response.

  • Tackle “big” problems, provide options, and drive solutions.

  • Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior analysts, promoting best practices in cybersecurity and information assurance across the organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C) , Epsilon will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.

  • Minimum of 5 years as a system security engineer or information security engineer, with a strong technical background in security engineering and federal compliance.

  • Proficient with security tools and technologies, including SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, ArcSight), vulnerability scanners (e.g., Nessus, Qualys), endpoint protection (e.g. ESS, Tellix), and cloud security in AWS, Azure, and hybrid environments.

  • In-depth understanding of NIST SP 800-53, FISMA, RMF, and continuous monitoring requirements; experience with STIG compliance and vulnerability management.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Ansible) for security automation and process optimization.

  • Advanced skills in network security principles, firewall management, intrusion detection/prevention systems, encryption technologies, and endpoint security.

  • Preferred certifications include CISSP, CISM, CEH, or equivalent advanced security certifications.

Other Requirements:

  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance and be eligible to obtain Top Secret with SCI eligibility.

  • Will be subject to a federal background investigation.
