Amazon Communications Manager, Books in Arlington, Virginia

Description

Amazon is looking for an experienced strategic PR professional to join the Books Communications team as a Communications Manager. Your role will be to identify and respond to emerging topics, issues, and media inquiries across the Books business. This position is for someone who is highly motivated and committed to protecting and promoting the reputation of Amazon Books through reactive communication with journalists and the development of Amazon's positions. This role requires strong ownership, a collaborative attitude, high judgment, and exceptional writing skills.

Key job responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day reactive media inquiries, working directly with reporters and deep diving with colleagues.

  • Monitor, assess, escalate, and resolve a variety of situations occurring simultaneously with excellent judgement.

  • Formulate a clear point of view on complicated issues and create a concise and well-written narrative to express it.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets/reporters to discuss and manage tough stories, correct inaccuracies, and establish a connection point for future story development.

  • Communicate clearly and efficiently to address complicated scenarios.

  • Developing forward-looking scenario plans for emerging issues.

  • Manage feedback and edits quickly and concisely.

  • Effectively represent Amazon as a spokesperson.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field

  • Experience in professional communications or public relations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Deep understanding of and experience with media relations.

  • Experience in issues management.

  • Ability to drive progress and earn trust while working across multiple teams.

  • Positive, can-do attitude.

  • Solid judgment, particularly in narrow time frames.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $188,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
