Job Summary

The Grants and Contracts Specialist II will assists Principal Investigators in preparing and managing research grants and sponsored projects within the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, which includes the Departments Undergraduate Nursing, Graduate Nursing and Kinesiology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

PRE - AWARD :

  • Develop proposal budgets and narratives, review complex grant applications, and interpret compliance regulations from agency sponsors and UTA policies.

  • Prepare final proposal documents for online submissions and provide faculty with edited drafts and recommendations for review.

  • Advise faculty on allowable/unallowable costs and act as liaison between CONHI faculty and the Office of Pre-Award for grant submissions.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance, accuracy, and completeness before submitting proposals to the Office of Research Administration (ORA) or directly to sponsors with approval from (ORA).

  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with faculty regarding new grant developments.

  • Participate in meetings with CONHI and UTA faculty on research grants and maintain a central database of all pre-award submissions for CONHI.

  • Prepare annual grant reports regarding submissions and additional reports by special request.

POST - AWARD :

  • Guide principal investigators on grant implementation, interpreting award terms, contract conditions, and compliance requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with sponsor reporting deadlines by reviewing programmatic reports with faculty, staying updated through sponsor webinars, maintaining grant records, and advising on allowable post-award costs.

  • Prepare and submit prior approval requests, including extensions, budget transfers, scope changes, and personnel updates, while coordinating with agency officers to resolve programmatic issues.

  • Process close-out documents, coordinate with Research Administration and Grants Accounting on contracts, budgets, and reports, and support grant administration, negotiation, and resolution of complex issues.

  • Acts as liaison between CONHI faculty and the Office of Post-Award in Research Administration for new grant awards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or management with two plus (2+) years of sponsored program or grants accounting experience in higher education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or management and four plus (4+) years managing education and research grants with expertise in compliance and regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong managerial and organizational skills with experience in proofreading grant proposals, familiarity with federal regulations, budget development, and personnel management.

  • Skilled in coordinating multiple projects, with strong analytical abilities and proficiency in Microsoft Office and databases, and capable of working independently.
