Job Summary

Provide leadership and management in the operations, oversight, direction, coordination, and execution of communications and engagement for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, and Extension and Extended Campus. Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing communications and engagement to support academic and university objectives in support of the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates, implements and manages communications efforts to support key strategies and objectives in collaboration with internal and external partners.

  • Develops and executes a strategic plan for academic affairs communications in support of the university’s strategic plan and in alignment with the UTA brand.

  • Oversees the conceptualization, writing, editing and production of all print technology-based communications initiatives including social media, audio and video production, articles, and other electronic communications.

  • Research and write formal speeches, as well as reports, presentations, media statements, and collateral materials for the Provost and other key senior leadership, as requested.

  • Supports a wide range of large to small-scale special events, presentations, and other activities.

  • Track upcoming events, coordinate with the AA staff and ensure necessary research and background information is received so that the Provost and other AA leadership are prepared.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with seven (7) years’ experience as a communications director or as a senior manager in a communications or public affairs office.

  • Experience drafting executive speeches, opinion pieces, and remarks for events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in English, communications, public relations, or related field. A masters degree may substitute for one year of required experience.

  • Experience with management and budgetary skills.

  • Experience in higher education communications, publications and marketing.

  • Experience working with senior university administrators and faculty.

  • Additional years of experience in writing and editing; and producing publications and working with Internet based publications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated record of producing excellent press materials that convey a clear and consistent institutional image.

  • Excellent team-building skills and superior ability to work with people at all levels.

  • Demonstrated leadership, project management collaboration and administrative skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently research, write, package and produce content for complex projects, including visual and written components.

  • Ability to understand and creatively solve complex problems in a deadline driven environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Personal computers, Microsoft Office software suite, social media programs, and standard office equipment.
