Job Summary

The Associate Director for Service will assist in the Director in the day-to-day operations of the Follett Student Leadership Center. They will oversee the management and supervision of two Assistant Directors focused on leadership and service programming and student development. The Follett Student Leadership Center provides various leadership education, service, and development programs to a diverse campus community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise and supervise the Maverick Leadership Trainer peer education program by training peer leaders, hosting ongoing development for peer educators, scheduling departmental workshop, and managing tabling requests for the department.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and campus administrator for the Texas Leadership Scholars program.

  • Review and maintain annual requirements for participants, advise students through requirements to ensure their success in the program and at UTA.

  • Collaborate with Admissions, Financial Aid, Housing, Student Success, and other stakeholders to ensure administrative tasks are completed. Manage new student intake, selection, and onboarding.

  • Supervise two Assistant Directors who oversee leadership and service programs and initiatives.

  • Plan and execute Fall Leadership Retreat.

  • Recruit and train peer leaders, review and manage curriculum, plan team-building and leadership development activities.

  • Work with off-campus campsite for logistics and weekend details.

  • Present leadership workshops for student organizations, groups, and departments throughout the year.

  • Assist in the implementation of current and new leadership development and service programs focused on the student body at-large.

  • Serve as a departmental liaison to other departments on campus to consult and incorporate leadership education into existing work on campus.

  • Represent the Leadership Center on various campus and community projects and committees.

  • Assist in the day-to day operations of the Leadership Center and participate in large departmental events such as the Fall Leadership Retreat, signature leadership programs, and Leadership Recognition Ceremony.

  • Performs other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Creative Suite, and desktop publishing.

  • Experience planning, implementing and evaluating student programs.

  • Ability to utilize independent thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills.

  • Experience working with a diverse population; excellent writing and public speaking skills.

  • Experience in advising student organizations, university judicial theory/practice, student counseling, budget planning and management.

  • Knowledge about event management, contract negotiations and event production.

  • Licenses: Class “C” Operator’s Driver’s License.

  • Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver’s License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree required and five (5) years of full-time experience working in Leadership or Service Programs, Student Affairs, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of leadership development programming and implementation.

  • Experience with budget planning, program management, and student advising techniques.

  • Supervision experience. Strong assessment experience.

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Effective organizational skills, including ability to plan for future events and to execute in a timely manner.

  • Must be able to work independently. Must be able to manage multiple projects at one time.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • In addition to the typical 8-5 pm workday, this position requires some evening and weekend hours at Follett Student Leadership Center sponsored programs and attendance at regional and national professional development seminars and conferences.

  • May be required to drive a 15-passenger van in order to transport students to meetings and conference.

  • Must be able to develop and manage relationships with campus stakeholders to successfully administer leadership development programming.
