Sauder Woodworking Co Transportation Planner in Archbold, Ohio

The Transportation Planner performs day-to-day activities to support logistics and transportation operations. Responsibilities include processing daily orders for various transportation methods; coordinating with trucking companies, shipping lines, and other transport providers; and managing the entire transportation supply chain. This role collaborates with internal teams and external customers, emphasizing excellent customer service and effective communication. Additionally, the Transportation Planner handles international shipments and ensures compliance with customs regulations.

This role offers a hybrid arrangement, with an agreed-upon portion of work time spent at our office in Archbold, Ohio. Candidates must be located in a commutable distance of Archbold, Ohio.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Scheduling/Supply Chain

  • Balances warehouse workload via scheduling based on current processing requirements and guidelines.
  • Manages shipments to ensure timely routing, routing responses, and carrier pick up.
  • Helps with the tendering of outbound loads and planning of all inbound activity of trucks and container volume of finished goods and component parts to Sauder receiving locations.
  • Helps monitor and measure carrier performance metrics of carriers to support the best service, on-time and complete shipments to our customers and end consumers.
  • Schedules carrier pick-up times according to our customer's pickup and delivery requirements and our warehouse operations workload guidelines.

Shipment Documentation

  • Creates shipments from deliveries -- checking arrive by dates, ship dates, cancel dates, weight, special instructions, and validate shipment costing for prepaid shipments.
  • Prepares necessary documentation for all international shipments.
  • Helps with auditing of inbound and outbounds freight bills via EDI and mailed in invoices.

Compliance

  • Maintains guidelines and procedures for loading and maximizing trailer capacity while meeting all requirements related to trailer weight limits and product restrictions.
  • Classifies finished goods, component parts and purchased goods with proper classification according to Customs Harmonized Tariff schedule.
  • Helps with classification of all products according to the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) to support BOL information when shipping LTL.
  • Helps maintain CTPAT procedures, policies and compliance.

Customers

  • Determines level of service needed and searches for and selects appropriate carriers for all expedited and miscellaneous orders.
  • Understands customer's requirements as outlined in their vendor guide, making sure Sauder in compliance with shipping and routing instructions.
  • Provides good documentation to help validate chargebacks that come from our customers and freight companies.
  • Works across multiple customer portals and sites to timely communicate proper PO info for routing and timely shipment tendering per customer established guideline and let customers know when their carriers did not pick up on day of appointment and are considered late.
  • Maintains accurate customer records and shipping information in a manner consistent with department standards and systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or equivalent is preferred.

Experience using Microsoft Office Products and SAP, or other comparable ERP System.

Ideally, has basic knowledge of freight bill auditing and claims reconciliation; freight and modes of transportation, transportation regulations and rules (work rest hours, commercial transportation regulations, etc.).

Ability to meet deadlines and manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
