JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Description: Small Engine Mechanic Type: DIRECT HIRE Location: Appleton, WI / Kaukauna, WI Employment Type: Full-Time Salary Range: Based on Experience Job Overview: The Small Engine Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining small engines found in outdoor power equipment, such as lawnmowers, chainsaws, generators, and other motorized tools but not limed to. This position requires a solid understanding of small engine systems, mechanical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to repair equipment efficiently while ensuring high-quality service for clients. Key Responsibilities: Diagnosis and Repair: Diagnose mechanical problems in small engines using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment. Perform repairs, such as replacing defective parts, rebuilding engines, and fixing fuel, electrical, and mechanical issues. Troubleshoot and repair engines, carburetors, fuel systems, brakes, ignition systems, and electrical circuits. Perform minor and major repairs on two-stroke and four-stroke gasoline engines as well as diesel engines, when applicable. Routine Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, replacing air filters, sharpening blades, and adjusting or replacing belts and spark plugs. Clean and maintain small engines to prevent major breakdowns and ensure proper operation. Test equipment after servicing to ensure proper performance and safety. Equipment Installation: Install new or replacement equipment and ensure that engines are properly configured and functioning according to manufacturer specifications. Provide clients with advice on the proper usage and care of their equipment to extend its lifespan. Inventory and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all repairs, parts used, and maintenance work performed. Manage and track an inventory of spare parts, ensuring adequate stock levels to perform timely repairs. Recommend parts and supplies for purchase based on equipment and repair needs. Customer Service: Communicate with clients to explain repair needs, provide cost estimates, and discuss maintenance recommendations. Offer professional advice on troubleshooting, care, and best practices to help clients avoid future issues. Ensure all work is completed in a timely manner to meet customer expectations. Safety and Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with hazardous chemicals or machinery. Ensure all repairs and maintenance work complies with safety and environmental regulations, including proper disposal of hazardous materials such as oil and fuel. Maintain a clean and organized workspace to prevent accidents and improve efficiency. Qualifications and Skills: Experience: o Minimum of 2 years of experience as a small engine mechanic or in a similar repair role. o Experience working with a variety of small engines, including lawnmowers, trimmers, chainsaws, snow blowers, generators, and power washers. Technical Skills: o Strong knowledge of two-stroke and four-stroke engines, as well as fuel, electrical, and hydraulic systems. o Ability to use diagnostic tools, multimeters, and hand and power tools to diagnose and repair engines. o Familiarity with small engine brands like Briggs & Stratton, Honda, Kohler, Kawasaki, and others. Problem-Solving: o Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to quickly identify and resolve mechanical issues. o Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks based on urgency. Communication: o Good verbal communication skills for interacting with clients and team members. o Ability to explain technical issues in simple terms to customers and provide clear repair estimates.
