The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is seeking a Payroll Analyst (Administrator I). The Payroll Analyst works within the Office of Finance and is a critical member of the payroll unit. The payroll unit is primarily responsible for processing personnel transactions for over 7,800 MDOT employees. This includes new hires, terminations, and all changes affecting the employees’ pay.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Enter, verify, and reconcile data in the payroll system.

  • Maintain all aspects of salary rates for each employee to include recording, verifying, documenting, and data retention for all changes.

  • Participate in the coordinated activities required for the processing of the bi-weekly gross payroll process.

  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies.

  • Provide excellent customer service to our employees by answering questions and resolving issues on payroll and leave-related matters.

  • Comprehend and apply Federal, State, and MDOT laws, policies and procedures, as well as requirements from various collective bargaining agreements to payroll transactions.

  • Prepare and review payroll and financial reports.

  • Respond to audit requests and implement corrective actions.

This position is considered Emergency Essential. Employees are restricted from taking leave during the critical processing days, and in the event the State is closed or on Liberal Leave, employees must still report to work. Overtime may be required during the payroll cycle based on work volume and/or processing days.

The current vacancy exists at MDOT TSO, Office of Finance, which is located in Hanover, MD. (Anne Arundel County).

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience in administrative or professional work. *One (1) year of the required experience must involve preparing, processing, or reviewing personnel transactions in a payroll or human resources office, or related experience.

Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or ability).

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet critical deadlines on a biweekly basis

Licenses & Certifications

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland.
