The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) District 5 is currently recruiting for a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor I in Anne Arundel County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill current and future vacancies in this classification.
Nature of Work: The main purpose of this position is to manage the Equipment Maintenance Operations at the Glen Burnie Maintenance Shop. This involves the maintenance, repair, fabrication and body repair of vehicles, diesel and gas-powered equipment and heavy-duty construction equipment. This position supervises a staff of heavy equipment mechanics and other personnel who include body repair specialist and facility maintenance technicians in the enforcement of policies and procedures related to shop operations. This includes preventive maintenance, repair, replacement of parts and emergency service for vehicles and equipment. This position also maintains facility operations of buildings and systems including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fuel pumps and tanks, overhead doors, oil water separators and paint booth systems. This position is also the accountable officer for all fixed assets at this position. Also requires knowledge of manufactures standards and OSHA and MOSHA regulations.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy-duty construction equipment. Three (3) years of the required experience must include servicing and repairing heavy duty construction equipment and diesel engines.
Notes:
Applicants may substitute additional documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
Completion of an accredited training program for Heavy Equipment or Diesel Repair may be substituted for one and one-half years of the general experience. The accrediting body for the training program must be listed on the U.S. Department of Education's Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.
U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.
Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for two years of the required education. (The two years of experience used to qualify for ASE testing is considered an integral part of this substitution and cannot also be considered separately to meet Education or Experience Minimum Qualifications.)
Certification as a Master Technician in one or more subject areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education.
Licenses & Certifications
Candidate must possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the state of Maryland.

Special Requirements:
Employees in this class may be required to have satisfied the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician III level of the employing administration's certification program.
Employees may be required to obtain their certification in Air Conditioning Recycling and Recovery during their probationary period.
Employees who are required to function in the capacity of Commercial Vehicle Inspector may be required to obtain and maintain their Commercial Vehicle Inspector's License.
