Job Summary
The Safety Technician, Intermediate’s (STI) primary role is decontamination of patient care rooms. The STI will utilize specialized machinery that emits hydrogen peroxide vapor and/or hydrogen peroxide mist to effectively destroy pathogens. This process will work in conjunction with infection control policies and procedures to sanitize Michigan Medicine rooms that have been identified as needing specialized sanitization. These functions will be performed daily on a preventative and proactive basis. The STI will operate under the supervision of either the Environmental Services Supervisor, Manager, or Training Specialist for the assigned shift. This position has mandatory accountability for outcomes.

Responsibilities*
Report issues while on site to the EVS TSL or EVS Supervisor
Perform daily decontaminations
Issue Daily Decontamination reports via internet based tracking system
Incubate and monitor Biological indicators daily when applicable
STI will take on responsibility of Lead if/when Lead is unavailable.
Process priority and missed room sheets
Reporting daily decontamination numbers to the Management team.
Perform routine weekly / monthly preventative maintenance on equipment
Perform weekly inspections of various equipment used throughout Michigan Medicine
Ability to work and produce deliverables under minimal supervision
Any other task as assigned by Environmental Services Leadership
Required Qualifications*
Ability to work independently in a fast paced constantly changing environment
3-5 years of experince in area of specilization
Physical ability to lift 60 + lbs. with frequent lifting, bending, pushing / pulling, climbing step ladders, and being on your feet for extended periods of time
Ability to understand, interpret, and apply complex data that will be used to program decontamination equipment
Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, etc.) internet based applications, and web based data systems
Desired Qualifications*
3 to 5 years of experience in a healthcare environment; technical, or infection prevention
Previous experience with programmable hospital equipment preferred
In depth knowledge of Michigan Medicine / hospital Infection Prevention and Health Care policies and protocols
Detail oriented with an ability to perform work independently
Proven ability to manage time effectively
Ability to reliably follow established protocols and processes
Work Schedule
This position is Midnights / 32 hours / Friday-Monday / 11:45pm-8:15am

Background Screening
