Summary

We are seeking a clinical research assistant who is energetic, enthusiastic, and enjoys collaborative and independent science. This position involves genetic analysis and clinical research related to eye genetics. The focus of the labs is on genetic disorders of the eye.

Responsibilities*

The position involves clinical research in ocular genetics setting:

Patient recruitment and enrollment of study participants in research studies including: review of clinical records, phone and in person consenting, taking family history and medical history, drawing pedigree, saliva/blood sample collection and processing. It also involves interfacing with the institutional review board (IRB) and processing amendments and annual reviews for IRB protocols.

Parsing and entering metadata into database, database management and query. Database development and specimen management.

There is opportunity for gene and variant analysis in whole exome and genome datasets.

General office work related to research studies: copying and mailing genetic test results, filing data, compiling blood/saliva collection kits, scheduling results disclosures, and tracking genetic testing results.

The effort is divided 50% with Dr. Prasov's in the ophthalmic genetics clinic and laboratory and 50% with Kari Branham in the retinal dystrophy clinic.

Required Qualifications*

  • HS Diploma or Assoc Degree and 0-1 year experience required

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States, and be available on or before June 1, 2024 in order to apply.

  • Highly motivated responsible individual with excellent communication and organizational skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Interest in genetic counseling and patient-oriented research.

  • Clinical interest in eye disorders and ocular development.

  • Proficiency with database management and human subjects research is preferred, but will train the right person.

  • Experience with RedCap database

  • BA or BS in recognized field of science related to the position

Additional Information

This is a 2-year term-limited appointment. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
