Who We Are: The Control Systems Dept. supports a wide variety of Sustainable Energy, Mobility, Powertrain, Aerospace and Defense projects across SwRI. We leverage unique electronics, embedded systems and algorithms capabilities to facilitate innovative research, driving practical solutions to real-world problems. System-level thinking is essential to support experimental work in the lab and real-world test scenarios. Objectives of this Role: * Lead high-performance team to develop, implement and refine electrified propulsion system research, development and bespoke/novel test capabilities. * "Connect the dots" by identifying opportunities to apply our unique electronics and control systems enabled laboratory capabilities to improve electrified propulsion system testing in novel ways. * Leverage your hands-on experience to ensure a highly capable and safe propulsion system laboratory. * Coach your team to develop technical, project management and business development skills. * Develop and grow your engineering team's careers by exploring their strengths and optimizing their contributions. * Make a difference for the world by enabling energy saving and emission reducing technologies. Daily and Monthly Responsibilities: * Guide and support project managers and engineers to ensure projects are completed on-time and on-budget. * Bring your creative entrepreneurial spirit to help advance our motor and inverter work. * Provide technical guidance when helpful. Work with your team to develop new skills. * Proactively develop business by responding to RFQs and by providing unsolicited concept papers. * Stay up to date on industry and regulatory changes and adjust your strategy accordingly. * Execute and help optimize business processes by bringing best practice based on your experience. Requirements: * Requires a Bachelors, Masters or a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. * 10 years: Demonstrated proficiency in electric machines, power electronics or related propulsion system or energy conversion technologies. * 5 - 10 years: Experience leading technical teams. * Must have strong fundamental and experience-based understanding of electromechanical systems. The experience may be professional or personal. It is essential to ensuring efficient operation and troubleshooting of our lab and novel test equipment. * Must have a strong passion for developing new technologies and solving problems. * A valid/clear driver's license is required. Special Requirements: Work assignment is in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
