Job Summary

The University of Michigan and the National Institutes of Health will jointly invest $79 million to support and recruit 30 new faculty members to the Ann Arbor campus as part of a nationwide effort to enhance inclusion and equity across the biomedical and health sciences community.

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) at the University of Michigan seeks outstanding scholars for new tenure-track assistant professor faculty positions as part of the Michigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation (M-PACT) Program. This hiring program, funded by the University of Michigan and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), aims to recruit faculty with a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) via their scholarship, teaching, and/or service activities with research interests suitable for funding by the NIH. This call is part of a broader university effort to enhance inclusion and equity across the biomedical and health sciences community.

TheDepartment of Sociology (https://lsa.umich.edu/soc) and theInstitute for Social Research (ISR) (https://isr.umich.edu/) at the University of Michigan invite applications for a joint tenure-track assistant professor faculty position as part of the 2024Michigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation (https://research.umich.edu/m-pact/) (M-PACT) program. This position is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health Faculty Institutional Recruitment for Sustainable Transformation (FIRST) Program and the University of Michigan. M-PACT aims to enhance inclusion and equity across the biomedical and health sciences research community by hiring tenure-track faculty with a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications*

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree conferred by July 1, 2025 and must never have held a tenure-track faculty appointment. We are seeking candidates who have demonstrated exceptional promise in sociological research and teaching. Candidates must beeligible for NIH funding (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/who-is-eligible.htm) throughout their time in the program. They should have a strong research background and a demonstrated track-record of promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within their field of study through their own research, teaching/mentoring, and/or service activities as well as a commitment to continue to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the future through these and/or other activities.
