Air Force District of Washington Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Andrews AFB, Maryland

Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Golf Course on Joint Base Andrews. This is a regular part-time position with benefits. Responsibilities Provides technical and supervisory assistance to the course superintendent in formulating, executing, and evaluating plans, programs, and schedules relating to the management and care of two eighteen-hole golf courses, supporting nursery, and practice areas. Duties are primarily to make recommendations to and carry out policies and programs to assist the Golf Course superintendent. Has direct responsibility for the technical maintenance and operation of the course irrigation system and assists the superintendent in formulating, evaluating and adjusting the watering program to satisfy season and local turf requirements. Assists the golf course superintendent in the application of herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, seeding, irrigation, and planting of a large assortment of vegetation to include flowers, trees, bushes and grasses. Makes recommendations to supervisor on requirements for equipment, supplies and manpower. Incumbent has full supervisory responsibilities to include hiring, firing, awards, leave, reassignments, and disciplinary actions for assigned employees. Makes recommendations for improvement of programs to include alterations, minor construction or changes to tees, greens, fairways, and roughs. Develops landscaping designs to improve the beautification of the golf course complex. May drive a government vehicle in performance of official duties. Qualifying Experience: Incumbent must have training and experience in all phases of turf management, related equipment and the maintenance and repair of automatic irrigation systems, drainage, identification of and pest control, and horticulture. Position should also have through familiarity and knowledge of golf related construction. Possession of Class A rating from the Golf Course Superintendent's Association of America is highly desirable. Successful completion of a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) is required. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner and provide a copy of his/her driving record. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
