Position Summary Performs technical equipment operation activities for Grimes County (the County). Work involves operating light construction and maintenance trucks and equipment in performing a variety of maintenance tasks, including loading and hauling materials. Performs semi-skilled maintenance tasks. Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment

Operates light construction and maintenance equipment to perform various tasks Learns to perform construction and maintenance tasks including repairing potholes, paving, and trimming trees Transports materials to and from construction sites Directs and controls traffic around work sites Learns to conduct preventative maintenances, including repairing hoses and changing oil and filters Completes daily worksheet and fuel reports accurately Conducts daily equipment inspections for safety and functionality Builds and installs fences and barricades; operates specialized equipment Disposes of debris and provides support for county bridge construction Maintains cleanliness of vehicles and equipment Maintains quality communication and interaction with all employees, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the county and to project a positive image Follows organizational, county, OSHA, and public safety guidelines and protocols and performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures Responds to inquiries, questions, and comments from the general public per established standards and protocols May be required to work a schedule outside of standard business hours, including on nights, weekends, and holidays based on scheduling, job assignment, or declared emergencies and critical weather events Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities * MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:* High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one (1) year of experience driving commercial vehicles; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience. Oral and written fluency in English is required. To be eligible for employment with Grimes County, applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess a current Class A or Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL), as designated. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver License and the ability to drive a county owned vehicleper established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
